  • Okay, you know that this is an amazing game when everyone has a different opinion on which characters are the best, which ones are "broken," and which ones just suck.
At any one SSBB Party that I've been to thus far, I have not seen two people that share the same opinion on every character.
  • I haven't really stumbled upon any broken characters, but unfortunately I haven't played much of the game. That is what Spring Break is for, though.

I've unlocked everyone except Wolf so far.
    How's Toon Link?
The same as regular Link except lighter and perhaps a little faster. Oh, and cuter. Cuter is always important.
Not a single attack using Wind Waker weapons? Fuck that.

See what Sail said about Snake. After using him for a bit, I realized how ridiculously useless he was.

My favorite characters are Lucario, Lucas, and R.O.B right now. R.O.B. is the only one with wholly original attacks, all of which I really like. Lucario and Lucas are just better versions of Mewtwo and Ness, respectively, who I liked in Melee, but never really used. Dedede is pretty irritating to use. I can't figure out what I do to stop the second part of his B-up attack. I pretty much just click B-up, and then hit a bunch of buttons to try to stop it.

He has the Grappling Hook instead of the clawshot (I believe) and he doesn't have the Gale Boomerang, but yes it is a very cheap separate character. They even have the same Final Smash.
  • You guys are so wrong about Snake. If placed in the right hands, he is an absolute beast.

His A-side and A-up smashes are garbage, and I keep on accidentally blowing myself up with his mines/bombs. He should have had at least one gun.

Wow, if you rely on those, then you're obviously not using Snake properly. Why are you blowing YOURSELF up?

    *facepalm*
<Up Special Move: Super Dedede Jump>
    [image]
    Look! That’s a serious jump!
    And he lands HARD!
King Dedede’s great jump is his specialty! But he doesn’t have much freedom while jumping, and his vulnerability when he lands is pretty significant.
That said, if things look bad, just tap down on the Control Stick.
  • Bah, it isn't intuitive enough.

What would be? Hitting up+b again?
  • Heavy characters are better online because their attacks don't require the precision that the lighter ones do.
  • What would be? Hitting up+b again?
Toggling the control stick to the left or right.

My favorite characters are... Lucas... Lucas [is] just [a] better version of.. Ness... who I liked in Melee, but never really used.
Then you are doing it wrong. Ness is definitely superior to Lucas, especially since they improved PK Flash to move and detonate faster and PK Thunder to make tighter turns. Ness has always been my character of choice and Lucas just felt like a dumbed down version.

    Lucas has awesome hair.
  • I just watched the 1up Show and they had on some pro Smash Bros. players who so far are saying that the best characters in Brawl are Marth, Metaknight, DeDeDe, Toon Link, and Game and Watch.
  • Eh, honestly, character opinions are highly subjective at this point.

Word. Will always be the case.
  • SSE cut scenes are Nintendo porn.......

Here is a review of a game from someone on a small site that makes interesting points.

  • I don't know if I agree with it, but the end was amusing.
  • Uh...no.

    *gag, gag, gag, gag, SPLASH!*

    I laughed at that review.

Why did you post the same thing in two different threads? o_O

Anyway, I already made a sorta sizable response to that review in the "Things of your day" thread, but I'm going to delete that and move it here because it's more relevant here.

I don't know if he's calling Link "Zelda" ironically, or if he honestly is getting the name confused. Also:
I think it's okay for women who aren't children anymore to get excited about this game. It's okay for women to like cute little games like this. You get a pass, women.
    *twitch* ...Sexism sense... tingling... >_O

That review just strikes me as someone trying to get attention by saying "Oh look at me! I'm contrary to the popular opinion! Aren't I so cool with my ugly truth? Huh? Huh?" I'll agree with him that there isn't a huge jump between older gen and new gen graphics (but that doesn't really apply to the Wii, which is based around innovative gameplay and controls, anyway; why is he going on about the PS3 and 360?), and that Brawl is being played up as way more epic than it really is (and that's just the marketing, not the game itself). If his only real problem with the actual game itself is that the characters are cute, though, I don't think that's a good enough reason to give an overall negative review.

He himself admitted that the gameplay was a lot of fun; I have no clue why he seemed so condescending to the "it's the gameplay that matters" statement. Overall, his message just seems to be that he thinks games don't have to be fun, they just have to look cool and adult and have awesome graphics. Sort of defeats the purpose of a GAME, which is played in order to have FUN, don't you think? Just... ugh, what the hell? >

  • It's a JOKE! The entire video! Amy Whitehouse with a red cap! For Diddy Kong! I say you entirely missed the point of the video Tenchi Kaze.
  • edited March 2008
I know there was humour all through it, but it didn't seem like the point of the review was just a joke. It felt like the humour was there to enhance the review, not BE the review. I can usually tell when something is meant to be entirely a joke. Unless this guy is well-known for making reviews that are contrary to his actual views for the sake of humour/sarcasm, in which case he's not very good at it.

  • It was fairly mediocre. None of the jokes were all that funny, and it was a failed review in the style of Zero Punctuation.

That is true. But I still have to laugh at his preview of Super Smash Bros Brawl II.
  • It was still pretty crappy.

Anyway, on to more important things, does anyone think the stage editor is worthwhile at all? I'm on the fence about it, since it seems you can only make mostly generic levels. However, the ability to send stages to friends is a nice touch, and I've already started having some neat ideas for stage layouts (I'm working on a pyramid one with caverns and traps). Still, I think they could've done a much better job with it.

    *checks other thread*

Opps, didn't mean to do that, was just supposed to go in this tread and another vid in the things of the day. Sorry about that.
  • Three questions:

    1) I unlocked Stage Parts A & B yet I do not see any new parts in the stage builder. Am I doing something wrong here?

    2) Anyone else unlock something called 2:00AM Music? My SSBB game locked up and when we turned the game back on we were rewarded with this CD.

    3) After you complete the SSE you can go back in and clean everything up. Some areas have flags on them while others do not. Do the flags mean something? Some of the areas without flags are just boss battles, no side-scrolling.
