I don't know what everyone else did tonight, but I promise you: My night was better.
I spent the better part of my night cleaning one and a half years of accumulated filth from the barn in my back yard. It consists mainly of goat excrement, rotten goat feed and dirt all packed together into a dense, heavy-ass 8-inch deep layer of putrescent shit. We dredge it up with pitchforks and then transport it one hundred feet away via wheelbarrow to a pile where we are running out of room despite being only half way done with the pen. After about four more man-hours we'll have finished cleaning, at which point we will be taking on twenty more of the fucking vile, cranky, stubborn animals which I will be playing no small part in managing. Thank Zombie Jesus these godforsaken animals are helping pay for my college tuition.

The point being yes, your night was probably way better than mine.

  • Goddamn, that DT concert sounds amazing.
  • "ToeJam & Earl + Donnie Darko + The Sims + a Japanese game show + straight-up pornography."
I'm... not sure what to say to that. I suppose comparing it to a horrible car wreck that I cannot look away from would be close, but it's slightly more enjoyable than that.

It is definitely very strange. I've watched it twice now and both times it has made me feel more than a little uncomfortable.

I'm amazed that alot of people are calling it the "best music video ever" though. In fact, I thought Major Lazer's other video for "Hold The Line" was much better.

It has such an effect on me that immediately I listened to Piazzolla's Oblivion as a way of musically cleansing myself.

And then I watched the first thirty seconds of the Major Lazer video again. Very Strange.

  • Turtles in Time Re-Shelled is out and it is quite nice even though it is only the arcade version. Would have liked the Technodrome level and Slash :/

For all you retrogamers out there (non-emulation gamers I might add) a hillarious, but true flash cartoon called How to Hook Up the NES

I take it all back cause Frederik Shcodt's Twitter just provided me with a purely awesome book right now for any Miyazaki fan at all.

I heard Zappa Plays Zappa live for the first time ever last night. My mind was blown. The whole show was amazing.
  • At Pier One we have to do something similar. Sigh... It makes me feel blargh as much as the customer.

    That's hilariously depressingly true.

  • "ToeJam & Earl + Donnie Darko + The Sims + a Japanese game show + straight-up pornography."
Loved it. Showed it to my girlfriend, and she loved it even more.

A little backstory. When people want to get rid of something in the building I live in they put it in the laundry room. I went down to collect my stuff from the dryer and there is a bag and two stacks of comics! Who would just get rid of this big bounty without second thought? An angry mom? A beaten significant other by their non geek lover?

Anyway, five minutes ago I got a LOT of comics! Time to sort through them! I don't think I will get sleep.

Edit: Upon further inspection this person had similar taste to me. This is too good to be true. These must be deadly comics!

They might be cursed. Just sayin.
  • That's awesome, Viga -- what'd you get? I once heard some guy on a podcast say that he found a complete set of Sandman trade paperbacks on a curb.
  • I got two things of the day, right after I woke up.

    1. Someone made this cool animation for the Extralife Webcomic:

    2. One of my favorite bands, the Bouncing Souls, have made a new music video for their song Airport Security:
    53392847

However, my actual thing of the day is that they also made a stopmotion version of the same song and video with Lego Characters.

This is the opening video of Densha Otoko and I never noticed until now that is heavily influenced (if not a near carbon copy) of the Daicon IV opening animation.

  • So I met a guy from Poughkeepsie today. We had a conversation that went something like this...

Me: I'm still getting used to the palm trees
guy: Oh, Where are you from?
    M: new england
G: Really? I'm from upstate new york.
    M: No kidding? Where abouts?
    G: Poughkeepsie.
M: Huh. That's right around Beacon, right?
G: Yeah, a bit north. 'bout a half hour.
    M: That's cool.
G: Yeah, I used to go there a lot to visit my uncle.
M: He work in new york?
    G: Yeah, how'd you know?
M: Beacon's a bit of a commuter town. Although, there's this cool retro arcade museum there.
G: Really? Like, what do you mean by retro?
M: I mean super retro. No digital electronic bits. Electromagnets and analog score counters.
G: That's awesome! I have to check that out next time I go back east.
    M: Definitely.
G: So how long did you live in New York before you moved out here?
M: Huh? Oh, nah, I've never been to new york. I lived in Rhode Island.
    G: ...Wait, What?

This could mean one of two things:
    A. This is actually a fail of the day, and I listen to too much geeknights.
    B. This is actually a thing of the day, and I have awesome memory.

I'm thinking maybe a hybrid of the two....
  • M: Huh? Oh, nah, I've never been to new york. I lived in Rhode Island.
    G: ...Wait, What?
    Win.
  • M: Huh? Oh, nah, I've never been to new york. I lived in Rhode Island.
    G: ...Wait, What?
    Win.
Maybe. You can pick up a lot of things from listening to hours of podcasts from the same people. For example, I visited RIT in 2005, but after listening to quite a few Geeknights stories from there, I'm not sure if some of the things I remember seeing I actually saw, or if I've just heard Rym and Scott talk about it a few times, imagine it being made out of brick, and pass off the hazy lack of details as bad memory.

As for Beacon itself, I bet I could pinpoint Rym and Scotts house on Google Earth without too much problem, just from the things they say about it. Of course they're not going to give away their address, but long time listeners have enough clues.

Yeah, exactly. But being able to confound Guy From Poughkeepsie like that -- that's a solid win.

There's a regular Elephantmen I read and loved. I just picked a random issue and need to find the rest. So I'm really interested in this War Toys collection. It's a prequel.
