  • Basically, the DR is why you put some fucking pyros on your team.
Still doesn't help since a good DR spy can get out of range from flames and away safely after getting hit initially. After which they backstab the pyro and go to town.
It depends. If they get hit by the edge of the flames, maybe, but if they're right in the thick of things, they're going to get re-ignited before they can get out of range.

Note how I said good DR spy. They will go for the edge hit (and possibly not even suffer 1HP of damage if the minimum after soak isn't 1), and then run out of range. The Pyro, even if he runs the same route after the Spy, will never be able to reignite him without using the flaregun. Which is going to be impossible since the chances of trailing the Spy by sheer luck is so stupidly small with so many routes and such, relative, little spread of the flamethrower that you'll just have to get in the face of EVERY SINGLE PERSON and flame them hardcore to get dead ringers identified.
  • Note how I said good DR spy.
Now we're just reaching e-peen fight territory. This is rapidly devolving into "A GOOD SPY WOULD AVOID THE FLAMES" "BUT A GOOD PYRO WOULD BE ABLE TO IGNITE HIM ANYWAY" "YEAH WELL MY SPY HAS AN ATTACK DINOSAAAUUUR" "YEAH WELL MY PYRO CAN FLY AND CAN BACKBURN YOU FROM ANY SIDE WITH ANY WEAPON"
  • Ooh, backburning shotgun. So overpowered.
  • Backburning Axetinguisher. It double-crits!
  • Next pyro update will send you weights for your "W" key and your left mouse button, to save the fatigue of holding them down.

I just spent eight minutes on Google, searching frantically and praying to the unholy gods of 2fort that this exists.

    Sad panda did not find.
  • Jesus fuck, I don't usually play on pubs, but I got a lesson in why today - the server I went to was full of people who were as bad as counterstrike players on the voicechat (You know, constant abuse of literally everyone with a liberal dollop of the words "faggot" and "Nigger" in every sentence), and while I'm used to languishing around the bottom of the scoreboard on the FRCF server, I immediately shot to the top of the scoreboard, and remained there for a good hour or so, usually about 50-100 points ahead of anyone else.
  • Yeah, I turn off voice chat whenever I go into a pub server.
  • Just a warning, tomorrow (Sunday, 7/31/2011), I'm taking the server down temporarily for extended maintenance on the Linode itself. I'll post back here when it's ready again.
  • "YEAH WELL MY SPY HAS AN ATTACK DINOSAAAUUUR"
Last time I heard... dinosaurs still burn. MWAHAHAHAHAHA!
  • My dearest pubs: Thank you so very much. You have made me the happiest man alive.

  • >join random pubbie server
    >0 points, decide to try and play spy, badly as usual
    >top the leader board after backstabbing 3 guys and destroying a building
    >stay there without managing to kill anything else
Seriously, what the hell. I can't do melee for shit, just cannot grasp the bloody distance when it looks to me like a guy is still far outside of reach yet I could backstab him without a problem, even with 'low' ping.
  • Because people are telling about their greatness at pubs, let me tell a story from last week.

I was on a server that was at the moment quite small 5 or 6 people per team. Capture point, dustbowl. I played as a soldier and walked out of our spawn and saw enemy team pretty much camping and destroying rest of our team at the other gate. I walked to the capture point, saw nobody, got capture, walked to the second capture point and once again without even seeing anyone I got the cap.

That was quite a WTF people moment for me. Since my days of Enemy Territory I've always hated the players who think that K/D ratio is more important than objectives.
  • It is honestly more challenging to go up against hard bots then to play on pub servers.

Oh man, do not be fooled into thinking I did great. I just brought to the table a pubbie server that was worse than your worse expectations. I even got an achievement out of it so ridiculously bad.
  • My favorite moment on a pub server: I was playing 2Fort CTF, and noticed that all of the sentry guns were set up against the "up the gut" path not the scenic route into the basement. Switched to scout on my next death, then proceeded to run back and forth between the intelligence rooms TWICE. No sentries, not even guarding the intelligence. The entire time, I only encountered ONE enemy player, a fellow scout. We got in a bit of a scattergun slapfight, then he gave up pursuite while plainly seeing I had the intelligence on my back. This was in a 10v10 match. I am not that good at this game! I briefly lost faith in all humanity.

Meaning through the front door, not jumping from the roof of the bridge to the battlements, I assume?

The basement entry by the battlements was sentried up. My path was through the sewer, skinny hallway into the yard, and then down to the basement. Was just really poor sentry placement. There were 2 up, and a few feet in on direction would have spelled my doom. As for the other players, they were all in a huge pissing match out on the bridge & battlements.

  • You realize that normal people do not call ground floor the basement, right?

I have no idea what anyone calls the different areas of maps, as this thread is really the only place I discuss TF2 with anyone. Also, I have an obvious lack of ability to judge the relative heights of different parts of maps. It just feels "basementy"

I was talking in a more general sense. You know, like real life. Where there are ground floors above basements.
  • There's a TVTropes page called "Shoot the Medic first"

A postal pummeler dropped for me today. I wouldn't have crafted it because it IS functional identical to the Axtinguisher, but I'm definitely going to use it over the Axtinguisher because beating someone to death with a mailbox is just too hilarious.

Also got a Backscratcher today, which seems like a decent weapon too, but haven't used it yet. They need to come out with a couple of new Pyro weapons soon. I almost got the full set of them. Only missing the Sharpened-Volcano Fragment, the Maul, Powerjack, and the Detonator :)
The class is definitely missing some variety though. It has the fewest primary weapons, and the fewest secondary weapons, and has been significantly nerfed repeatedly while other classes have been boosted.

  • There's some quakecon promo stuff going on. While I like the styling of The Original, I'm pretty sure Quake 4 is a pretty eh game, isn't it?
  • There will be a way to craft it eventually, or it will show up as a random drop.
