I absolutely hate Montreal, but as a Bruins fan I am so glad they beat Washington last night. I'd much rather the Bruins play the Flyers with home ice advantage than Pittsburg on the road.
Oh my fucking god-I-don't-even-believe-in. The Flyers just wrote history. They were down 0-3 in the series, came back. They were down 0-3 in the game, came back. Only the third time in NHL history, the first time in 35 fucking years that a team returned to from from losing the first three games in a best-of-seven series to win it and in fact only the fourth team in the big four to do that.
It's only fitting that the Flyers won it on a power play goal (against the Bruins PK that was perfect in the first round) by Simon Gagne, a man many Bruins fans declared he would be a non-factor because he broke his toe in game 4 of the first round and didn't play the first three games. The Flyers won every game Gagne played and lost everyone he didn't, scoring two game winners including an OT winner in game 4 and the series clincher tonight. Some non-factor he is.
Not to take anything away from the Flyers (or the Bruines for that matter), but putting themselves in a 3 game deficit was the shocker. This definitely made the series that much more exciting knowing that the series could end with another Boston win.
The San Jose/ Chicago series is going to end pretty quick if the Sharks don't figure out a way to keep Byfuglein out from in front of the net. I am surprised they didn't learn from the Canucks loss.
A Chicago/ Philly Cup series would definitely be fun to watch. Though I am part and partial to Montreal, only because Gomez plays for them now. Since my team, Anaheim, traded Pronger there was no hope for them making the playoffs.
Since you revived the thread and this is a geek forum, I guess I'll have to talk about Stan Lee's most recent project: The Guardian 30. Basically the NHL and Stan Lee (or whoever does the dirty work now before Lee puts his name on it) collaborated to design 30 superheros, one for each NHL team. Of course, the results are ridiculous.
I wonder who failed more last night: Candidate A: The Los Angeles Kings put up 4 goals in the first 23 minutes of the game or so and the San Jose Sharks had none. The Sharks came back, tied it at 5 with 2 goals in the last two minutes of the 2nd period and then proceeded to win it in Overtime. Candidate B: The Vancouver Canucks are pegging for the Cup, were the best team in the league this season and play the defending Stanley Cup champions Chicago Blackhawks in the first round. The Hawks also happen to be the Canucks nemesis who handily dispatched them in the playoffs each of the last two seasons. It's game 4 and the Canucks won all 3 before it. And the Canucks get absolutely killed in a 7-2 decision favoring the Hawks.
I watched part of the Canucks game. Luongo gave up to quick goals, so they took him out of the game. It was downhill from there. Stuff like that happens in hockey. I still don't see the Blackhawks advancing.
Yeah, I'm getting the feeling that it was like Game 4 in the Red Wings-Sharks series last year. Sharks were up 3-0 in the series, and Johann Franzen busted out for the Wings scoring 5 goals. Unfortunately, the Wings found themselves golfing after Game 5.
Mike Richards just got sent with a 5 minute major at the very end of the 2nd period. With all the penalties Buffalo is getting away with and this BS, the Refs are more or less trying to hand the Sabres the game. What a joke...

They SHOULD have pulled Luongo after the two quick ones, but left him in until he'd let in six. Not that any of them were his fault; the rest of the team played like utter crap.
It'll be interesting to see what happens tonight. The Canucks have bounced back well this year after poor performances, but the Hawks have some momentum and confidence now.
Grumblegrumblegrumble.... Jackets can't not choke, Nash and Umby are the only ones trying anymore, no playoffs for us... grumblegrumblegrumble
It's really a crying shame that Columbus isn't making the playoffs. I believe Umberger has the potential to be a premier playoff performer in a similar style that Franzen is one. Problem is he's on a team that never makes the playoffs. Really would love to have him back in Philly. Good luck next year.

Yeah, history was made!
