I am excited about this game. At last, a Serious Sam styled Zombie game. Minus the humor, I assume.

    I can not wait

Don't wait, download the demo now. I'm going out to see a client in a few hours then will probably spend the night playing.

To meet other Geeknights people playing, go over to the Geeknights Steam chat channel (Hereby known as GN Steamchat, you need Steam installed for the link to work.).

There's been 7 people or so on it for a little while. The problem is, the Steam friends server is failing...
  • I played the demo for a few hours last night and I loved it so much so that I have pre-ordered it today.
If the rest of the levels are as good as the 2 chapters in the demo then this is going to be the best multiplayer game ever.
  • I think I will get this game, but if I do, I will get it for my 360, and it seems that there is no cross-pollination of online play between 360 and PC.

I hadn't even thought about the fact that there might be mods for this down the line. I'm sure those won't be available for the xbox version. Too bad.

So, I plan to do this after work. I can tell: the demo is gonna rock. I'll download Steam after work. (Like, around 11).

  • I just played some multiplayer demo action, and I gotta say- It's a pretty damn good game. I like it a lot, and maybe when I get the extra money I'll buy it.
  • Got Steam and in the chat room.

The demo fucking rocks. No doubt. I can't wait to get this game

Demo seems kinda crap but this is down to a combination of:
    • Everything looks like I'm in disco land (graphics error)
    • Don't expect to get decent frame rates on the minimum specs
    • Some keybinds have two actions which you can't bind separately (especially shove zombie / heal teammate)

All this, if you run the game on a laptop that is worse than the minimum requirements for the game. And there is nothing wrong with the keybinds. It's just smart. Shoving a team-mate with a First Aid Kit is useless, thus the game figures you most likely want to apply the First Aid Kit to the team-mate. Same with pills, you can punch (shove) zombies in the face when you have it equiped, but punching a survivor is useless, and since force-feeding is kinda silly, you give the pills when using the alternative action key.

The smart thing to do would have been to couple it with the use key. Highlight teammate, hold use, done.
I suppose it'll just be something to get used to but it doesn't make much sense.

And then you can't strafe right when shoving zombies. Great idea.

Bind the use medkit on teammate button to the use button; or, as I was saying, just not force you to combine the two keys.

  • The only even slight problem I have is friendly fire being on, but that's just because I suck and am not used to playing with friendly fire on.

Friendly fire is ok, until you go to expert. once you're at that level, your biggest enemy is not the zombies you shoot. It's your team mates.

The worst problem with the friendly fire is that your teammates can pass right through you. So if you are firing and they walk right through you, all of the sudden they are directly in your field of fire.

This is something you have to fix with command work, I'm afraid, otherwise greifers would be all over it. If someone is under heavy attack, move off to the side and fire across their front.

Pfffft, just learn to stop shooting your teammates. Often when I'm not near a puked upon teammate, I'll just crouch (with the uzi) and shoot in front of them to just headshot all the zombies piling up. If the person is down, yay for head-level spraying of bullets. But yes, people have to realize that friendly fire is on, and stop running around like an idiot.

Too often do I try to scout ahead (just looking around the corner) when someone is patching up, and then one of my teammates runs in front of me, just as I shoot to pick off a zombie. People should seriously stop trying to 'look cool' and run in, blast zombies and ignore their team-mates. Also, people crouching behind the person in front (who is crouched) are worse.

And learn that if you run off a room ahead and a hunter gets you, you are on your own.

I want to try having two people run out and try to kite (I think that means attracting a clump of the horde) then bring the zombies back to the other two who then hose them down.

YOU ARE THE WORST. well, okay, not the worst, but the worst from the four when we played. When we were in a corridor you just keep stepping forward, past me, while I stand still.
  • While the combination of friendly fire and being able to walk through teammates can lead to danger, it is much better than all of the alternatives. If you couldn't walk through teammates, it would be incredibly frustrating, as is HL2 when you have AI squad-mates blocking your path. If there were no FF, the game would be trivially easy, as everyone would be able to easily hose down the zombies by concentrating their fire in a column.

People simply have to learn not only to not shoot teammates, but not stand in teammates line of fire. If friendly fire happens, when there are only four players, equal blame goes to shooter and shootee. If FF happens too much, someone on your team sucks, get a new player.

We were playing Normal! It's very hard to play that seriously. Later I forgot we switched to advanced, so did the same, non-serious zombie blasting. You have to admit the latest game with Zombeaver, Mankoon, you and I was awesome, and I was not the worst then. n_~ On the contrary, I only took one hit in the first map. That had some awesome moments. Some really freaking awesome moments.
  • So I was checking steam today and I clicked on Valve Complete Pack(price $99.99). It looks like Valve also included Left 4 Dead on that pack. That is very interesting.

    Yes, you are correct.

Indeed, the game was really fun. It scares the shit out of me.

Really? Judging by only the demo, I think the one major failing of the game is that is has virtually no scare factor. Half-Life 2 is scarier than the L4D demo. By having a constant zombie flood, there is absolutely no "jump out and go boo" scary, the easiest kind of scary to get.

Well it is only the demo. Very few things scare me anymore, but the Witches scare me. I love that the demo is different each time you play it. Smetimes the Witch doesn't show up at all, and sometimes there is more than one. I have it for 360, s I dunno how the PC version is.

There are some places in the demo that make me real nervous. The primary one is the bedroom on the top floor of the first building. The lights are completely off and all you see is your little flashlight circle.

Well, there are a couple of things that should be considered. I don't think I'd actually survive a zombie apocalypse. I'm not that good at this game but I love playing it. The first time I played it was on normal difficulty, and I agree that it wasn't scary. If put on expert with 3 other humans it can be really scary and fun. The Ai player characters make the game easy and dull. Also, it's not the panics that scare me because they do happen too often. It's when there's a boomer in the mix and you know you're fucked. Or when your team is trying to snipe a witch but as you approach her you get screwed over by the panic! The other thing to consider is that I just get scared easily =p.
However, If I could name two of the scariest moments it would be the following:
I figured I'd go slightly ahead of the other players and get a Molotov cocktail in the vent. As I pick them up I hear gurgling sounds near me. A boomer can't fit in the vents, right? I turn around I see a fat ass boomer squeezing his ass into the vents. That was a most frightening sight to behold.
The other time was when we were leading a tank around in the booths of a subway station. Two teammates were already dead. The other just threw a Molotov cocktail and surrounded me with fire. So, maybe it wasn't the best idea, but I ran into the closet and closed the door! Then the tank ripped the goddamn door off!
    Anyway, like I said, I don't think I'd survive the zombie apocalypse.^^
