Pretty fun game, just gotta remind myself not to shoot the witches...It's hard not to kill zombies...
Wasn't getting insta-knocked-down once enough to teach you that?
On another note, anyone has any idea what the hell the 51st Achievement is exactly? The Outbreak one.
Well, I got it by getting puked over me, and got killed with the puke still on me, while someone was trying to help me up in VS, so its one of those things.
Has anyone noticed if zombies appear to be more or less attracted to a survivor with a flashlight on or off? I know the witch is a bitch when lit up by bullets or light but have you seen others pass you by to go for your fellow players whose lights are on?
Also really enjoying the game and love that people get frustrated and leave on the higher difficulties only to come back later to do it again, awesomely difficult. Beware on the levels with wooded area the zombies blend in with the freaking trees!

It might just be me, but I think they tend to go after those with flashlights on. It is far from universal, but it seems to be that way.
By the way, if anyone wants to play this on the 360 my XBL name is the same as the forum name.
I hate tanks on the hardest difficulty. I have yet to kill one. I see one and I just know it's a total party kill. There is no damn way around it. 2 Molotov’s + us shooting it like crazy didn't even get him down. Grrrrr. There has to be a way.
Oh and the split screen trick for the computer rocks, especially because my friend has a comp that can play the game and I don't. Now we can both rock zombies co-op style.

Once they notice a person, they attack them. I never noticed a zombie running past me because someone had a flashlight on. The only time they want to pass me is when I'm standing between them and someone who just got puked upon.

1 Molotov + 4 fully loaded auto-shotguns can take it down with ease. With luck you don't even loose a single person. Also, try to run, you can outrun it if you are healthy.

What is this? Please tell me more for it sounds great.

I have seen them run past me. It was usually because they shined them with the light. Note: I am playing on normal, this may change with higher difficulties. It is totally possible that I am missing something being retarded too.

It's perfectly possible that zombies are more likely to attack someone shining a light on them. The Witch goes berserk when a flashlight is shone on her, so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to think that flashlights also bother normal zombies, or make them notice you faster.
I personally haven't noticed this happening though. When it's calm, zombies mostly die before they get near me.

Reading some forum posts I believe it is viral. However, seeing as both times Boomer puke was involved, I suspect it playing a role.

A few nights ago we played the first campaign on advanced mode. We made it all the way to the final showdown, but we couldn't beat it. Tonight we played the first campaign on advanced mode. We didn't even make it to the final showdown. Of course, the players were different each night. I guess we know who's better than who.
Yea, Scott "Don't shoot the car... Oh wait, I shot the car" Rubin.
And your going to counter with Scott "Is that a witch, *witch eats face* Yea, that was a witch" Johnson. So I beat you to it.
What really killed us though, was people dropping damned cocktails on the floor in front us burning us horribly multiple times.. (also people running off in the other directions didn't help much).
Scott and I made it through the first campaign on advanced with the two AI. It wasn't until other people showed up that we started slowing down. :P
No shit, the AI is extremely skilled. It's human error that makes the game harder.
Heck, I think 2 humans + 2 bots is the sweet spot for easiest play. One human has a slightly harder time because the bots only do something when a zombie starts attacking, or is within a certain, short, range. Two people can deal better with attacking and jumping stalking Smokers before these can screw stuff up. Four people make the game hard, since with human error you might accidentally hit your team-mate, or a single piece of hail hits the Witch. Or you might jump out of a window and lose over half your health.
I totally agree. The AI is also useful in that they always take care of you if you're constricted or pinned by a hunter or something. The AI is not useful in that it never picks up the damn molotovs that just sit around though.
Yep, single player is definitely easier. Even though they never throw pipe bombs or molotovs (at least I've never seen them), they follow your every move. There's no conflicting actions or strategies. They are there for you.
I don't think the AI is that good. Yes, they do follow you, and keep the party together. Yes, they do automatically make saving you a top priority. However, they also do a lot of stupid shit. For example, if you get on a minigun, will they watch your back? No, they just keep doing their AI thing and shoot where they please. Can they setup gas cans? No, you have to do all that sort of thing yourself. The saving grace of the AI is that you can walk right through it.

I'm guessing you haven't played many 4 player co-op games and tried to play them 2 player before. For example the game Hunter: The reckoning, a four player over the head shooter for a console, is easier with two people playing, but when you had all four people playing it becomes impossible. People run in different directions more, use more resources and generally slow down the party. The biggest problems you have when playing left4dead is when your team gets separated in anyway your fucked. Note our best performance last night was in the mini-gun room because we had a plan and performed it (except those times someone (I won't name names), drops fire in our defensive position). Note, if someone got separated even by a few feet, they got horrible injured or killed or the team ahead was hurt badly, this is because the game punishes you for not sticking together. Now this is both the fault of the person leading the charge and the person falling behind. Both need to worry about sticking near the rest of the team, and providing cover for each other. I know a lot of the time in the subway cars if I was in better shape then one of the team I would take up a position behind them to cover them from any attacks from the back. The game is about squad tactics and keeping your friends safe, you have to control for slow people and take in account that as people get hurt they slow down the group. As people get better at the game they will speed up through the level but you can't expect everyone not to get lost in some of the mazes. (not to mention people seem to like to explore new levels). Losing because someone fell behind and was eaten by a smoker is the teams fault, not the dude who fell behind complete fault. The guy who runs ahead and doesn't keep track of the fact that someone on his team is not with them anymore, is also taking some blame.
This is a horror movie. You split up you die.
The A.I. is superior because it makes a point to always follow you and always saves your ass.
Indeed, the A.I. lacks any tactical thinking, but they are always there to release you from the smoker. The A.I. can't hold a line in a small corridor to keep the zombies away, but they are always going to rescue you when you get knocked down. It's a divide between awareness and tactial thinking. I remember one time where the whole group was badly injured and we were in a corridor wide enough for 1 zombies, and we got swarmed from both sides. I took the back and started shoving away the zombies but the A.I. let the zombies break through on the other side, attacking my back. Everyone died when that happened as it was utter chaos within such a small corridor, but it could have been so easily avoided if there were enough human players to think strategically.
I think 4 player co-op can have a great advantage, but you must have a pecking order. Everyone has to have a role and stick to the role. This is how the real military does it. This was working for me.
1. Leader - Usually make the decisions like "stay here and defend this point", "get in that house", "You take the Molotov and you take the med pack." Best if he knows the level well. 2. Primary Gunner - This is the guy who is tasked at taking out the distance zombies. Should be the best with explosive. 3. Support - This person should not worry about killing zombies at a distance. They cover your back and protect the other players. 4. Middle guy - They should play the middle role between Primary Gunner and Support. They take things out but mainly support the other players.
When shit hits the fan is when it gets challenging and people break their roles. It works best if the roles don't stay static, except the leader.
But trying to do this is like herding cats. People think they are right and don't want to be bossed around.
(except those times someone (I won't name names), drops fire in our defensive position)
All I'll say is that I was aiming straight down the hole, and the molotov did not go where I was aiming. At least, it's a mistake I won't make a second time.

You weren't the only one who had a bit of trouble with explosives ^_^ The only reason I didn't blow the party up a few times was because I generally avoided using explosives (until I have some time to play with them away from people ^_^
How do you have trouble with explosives? They throw perfectly just like grenades in every fps ever.
I haven't tried to use them, Up until yesterday I had not seen the dispersion of the fire or how big the explosion would be. Which is different from other games since it varies and it's good to know how much area is going to catch on fire before you throw a cocktail at near your feet..
I tried Expert on Dead Air with a few friends (3 people, 4 for some rounds). We got to Chapter 4: The Town, but didn't manage to win that one before they had to go to sleep. That level would always have 2 tanks, one close to the start that was decent, but also one towards the end that got us a few times because we were already on very low hp.
We had a shitload of fun this one round where 3 of us got to 1hp, with first two and then 3 of us in the grey zone (1 hit = death). We actually made it 80% of the way through the map (about half with the 1hp people). Let me tell you, this game is so very awesome when you're going around knowing that one hit from any zombie will kill you.

Was a fun game though. Some bad luck here and there, but that happens.
EDIT: Oh, and the Tank death animation is long, no need to shoot it though.

No mouse. I play on 360.
