I discovered that somebody stole my credit/debit card number the other day, so I had to cancel it and now need to wait for a new card, while not having any others due to being a student.
Plusfail: Rumor has it that the Steam sale starts tomorrow, and if it does I won't be able to get anything. This is slightly mitigated by there not being a whole lot of games I want that I don't already have.
Doubleplusfail: I'm interviewing at Google Mountain View on Monday and may need to survive the trip with just cash and a checkbook.
Boo-Yah: Did I mention I'm interviewing at Google Mountain View on Monday?
Good luck. I've never applied for Google mostly because I don't want to work in Mountain View but one of my coworkers who's a pretty smart dude prepared for a while for that and said it was the hardest interview he's ever had.

Google has offices all over the place. I have applied to Google Boston (technically Cambridge) and they also have offices in Seattle, NYC, Chicago, and Toronto (and probably others as well).

Sydney if you want to work here.
An acquaintance of mine sat a number of rounds of phone interviews and then was flown to Sydney for his in person interview. He's all but been recommended to start in the US. The interview apart from the regular social and psych was a lot of algorithm work. It will be interesting if its the same process everywhere.

Yeah I know at least one person that works at Google Seattle (and makes an absurd amount of money) but I guess I've never really explored what they do there. I just figured if you wanted the best diversity you'd want to move to Mtn View otherwise you might just have the option of a few projects. I had interviewed with Twitter in Seattle a few months ago when I was looking at new jobs and they mostly did Android dev and some sort of Cards program that I wasn't sure what that was.
I guess the other difference is that Twitter just barely moved to Seattle and Google has been here a bit longer than that. I also tend to equate it to Microsoft which has "offices" all over the place but most of them outside of Redmond don't have anything to do with software development.

Google does have a lot of distributed development, so where you are based on doesn't necessarily restrict what you may end up working on.
I just keep expecting some insanely wealthy person to come swooping in and buy millions of dollars worth of dilapitated Detroit properties and bulldoze them to create a palatial estate.

I've been talking to my mom about heading back with her next time she goes to visit her family this year. I haven't been back since summer after high school.

No?
OK then.

My favorite is still the original:
For now I'm using my TV as a temporary replacement, but that's far from optimal computer using experience.

Came home and remembered it wrote a functional piece of code in 4 lines.
Seems like programming exams are more about memory testing rather than problem solving when you don't get to write code on a machine.

Hopefully you get in.
