  • Got an smartphone. HTC Legend to be exact. Now I can tweet while I poop. Maybe I'll come up with other uses for it too.

  • Awesome New custom boots, based on the Steel Blue Portland high tops, which were my previous favorite boots. Comfortable as hell, Chemical, heat, electricity and impact resistant, beefed up steel toes and punji plates in the soles. Lovely.

Did you get an HEV suit with those or was that extra?

With these boots, I don't need no goddamn HEV suit.

Well, provided nothing dangerous happens above my lower calf.
  • I want boots like that.

    I want boots like that.
Well, They are pricey - 145 bucks for the base boots(if I throw in the discount I get at tradey's) plus another 180 bucks worth of custom work(with a steep discount) from a mate - my old man sprung for them as an early birthday gift, or else I'd still be wearing my magnum combat boots.

Edit - Plus, an increase in weight - They're easily half again as heavy as the base boots. I'm talking a minimum of a kilo and a bit per boot for what they weigh now. But that's only a very minor downside, since I'm used to heavy boots.

  • I still want boots like that, but will wait until I am a practicing physician.

I can't blame you - After all, had I the disposable cash, I would have bought them myself - Never undervalue a good pair of boots.

I never do. Best pair I ever had was a titanium-toed set of Timberland PRO series. Wore them to death working in Guatemala, though. It's a shame; they were fantastic kicks.

Timberland to make some fine boots, but I find the Steel Blues more Comfortable and long-lasting - If anything, the only problems with the Steel Blue Portlands I ever had was that they didn't stand up well to repeated exposure to very low temperatures - after everyday use through two very bad winters, the soles on my old pair just disintegrated - after the first winter, they were pretty bad, but the start of the second one was the nail in the coffin that made them unusable. The problem was that it wasn't a rubber mix made to stand up to such low temperatures, and thus, when they were exposed to it, the soles got brittle and started to crack and break very quickly.

However, in all fairness, I should have expected that - why would an Australian workboot be built to stand up to such extreme low temperatures, which would practially never be encountered in any situation they'd be used for? If I venture into colder climes again like that, I'll be smart enough to buy some boots which are built to stand up to that kind of cold before I leave, or at least when I get there.

  • I got a full-time job that pays 13 an hour. Quite a step up from my current job, which is "part time" (10-17 hours a week) at 9 an hour.

More drinking than was safe, reasonable, or in any way sane yesterday, mostly beer, rum and whiskey. Tested new barbecue. Ate more meat than was safe, reasonable or sane. Had a massive bonfire. Burnt another rescued couch. Smoked fine tobaccos in pipe. Fond attentions from somewhat attractive young women and men. The casino was in there somewhere, I suspect, and I'm now slightly richer.

Bonus - Mildest of mild hangovers, not even a headache, just some muggyness and lingering confusion, along with some mild burns and bruises, and my knee is sore as hell. Pretty much all of me hurts in some fashion, but we can figure that out later. Fucking off down the shops in southbank/city to get an enormous, greasy meat breakfast with both ice-cream chaser and strong coffee and whiskey, preferably together.

    Birthdays are nice.

See y'all in a few hours.

  • I think I may be starting a DnD strip soon. I have a pretty solid idea, just gotta make characters and write a few (~20) strips and see how long it takes and if I like it.
  • Just finished planning my first summer project. We have an unfinished basement, so I'm converting it into an awesome GeekRoom by turning at least one wall into a wall of Hungarian Shelves to hold books, comics, board games, videogames, a TV, a stereo, speakers, records/CDs, a media center PC, and my turntable. The entire basement is waterproofed and dehumidified, and the house is on a hill above the floodplain, so it promises to be awesome.
  • Hungarian Shelves
Wow. Those look cool, but as big-hardcover-artbook-heavy as my collection is, I imagine they'd rip right out of my wall.
  • Each support strut takes about 5-10 concrete anchors, holding the entire thing into the foundation of the house. Also, I'm using hardwood instead of pine for my construction due to the likewise heavy nature of some of my books and gear.

I can understand why it'd seem like a problem, but these pics sort of speak for themselves.
  • Well. That's pretty awesome, then. Maybe I'll do that eventually, someday when I have more wall space.
  • Holy shit! A new podcast project goes live! Check out episode 1 of Luke's Creative Podcast.
  • Finally finished all my work for the semester, now I get to treat myself to a week of nothing but hanging with friends and playing video games. One of my professors didn't even penalize me for turning in a paper incredibly late!
Plus, had a date that went very well last night, seeing Arcadia tonight, possibly another show tomorrow, and Anything Goes on Sunday.

This looks promising. I will check out later.

Yup! I'm looking forward to putting out our conversation. It was one of my favourites.
  • Just spent today playing bass and watching old movies. It has been a good day.
  • Surprise trip to the beach last night was good fun. Today was free Disney World (again) in the morning followed by Clint Eastwood westerns.
  • I just outsmarted a lag-switcher (not so much a feat outside of gaming, but this was in a match). Playing a game called Grifball in Halo (a ball in the middle of a court, players have melee weapons, try to score the ball to the other side), and this guy would freeze everyone until he was right on in front of the goal, just long enough to gloat before scoring. I realized his game, so in the next round, I quickly ran to the goal before he froze us, and as soon as I got control back I hit him; my teammate grabbed the ball, ran around the other team and scored, while I hear them shouting "NO NO THIS ISN'T SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN!"

For the rest of the game, they just kept us frozen. I count that as a victory.
