  • Okay, I realize y'all expect a lot out of me, but I only flew light aircraft, and I've flown a Jet aircraft once, and it wasn't solo. A fighter pilot I am not, and there is no fucking way I could land on a carrier. I wouldn't even want to try. I'd look like that NASCAR guy when they put him in the V8 Supercar.
Don't worry Churbs, I always maintain a realistic estimation of your abilities.

    What about a jetcopter?
  • What about a jetcopter?
No. I can't fly helos barely at all, I'm not even confident I'd be able to do more than start the rotors spinning.
  • Home in Berlin!
  • oh man my life has been so full of boo-yahs lately.

I'm about as close as humanly possible to a perfect score in Linear Algebra, and will get an A+ if I can keep performing at this rate.
Intro to CS is as fulfilling as I'd hoped and I'm already coding things up for fun based on my rudimentary knowledge.
My fledgling group of friends are getting less and less fledgling each day. Mealtimes are all but formalized and we have tons of intra-group jokes.
Later this week, we are planning on getting a bunch of rainbow flags from the LGBT center and doing a live action nyan cat.
My girlfriend is coming over this weekend to celebrate my birthday a bit early as she'll be busy the day of.
My room mate (not knowing the above fact) decided this will be a good weekend to go to Tennessee for some conference, giving Belinda and I the room to ourselves.
Finally, I've been juggling almost an hour every day, and doing partner juggling for several of those. Here is a video of Kevin (president of the club, awesome guy brony) and I practicing. I'm in the blue shirt.
  • Last night I got my copies of Snuff and Good Omens signed by Terry Pratchett! Also I met Terry Pratchett!

Yesterday, I watched an awesome episode of Community and I am still pretty happy about it :D

If you didn't like it, you have no heart, no soul, and hate you :P

  • Just submitted my Fulbright application. Been working on it for the past two months and I'm feeling really good about it.
  • Well, I know what I'm like when I'm drunk now. I talk about philosophy and feminism a lot, I feel comfortable touching people, and I try using my vocabulary more fully but I tend to slur all the words. Had fun though.
  • I just stayed up until 5am with friends watching MLP in the lounge, taking turns playing mario 64 ,and finally watching the world record speedrun. Yesterday evening/today was great.
  • Today I danced with Matt, from the Where The Hell Is Matt? dancing videos. I got a fun video of the two of doing our things, me juggling and him dancing badly, in one shot. I'm sure it'll make an appearance in a future video!
  • My band played our first live show yesterday and aside from a few bad mistakes, it went really well!
  • I was attacked by my girlfriend's jealous ex at a party last night. The only scratch on me is where my fist caught his tooth when I put it through the skin of his mouth. After he was kicked out I got drunk and spent the night with my lady. Suffice it to say, I feel manly.
  • Tonight I performed three songs at a comedy club. Rocked it! It was the first time I'd performed two of the songs too, and one got a better reaction than I thought it would. Which is cool.
  • Suffice it to say, I feel manly.
    Well done, sir. Well done.
  • I successfully navigated a discussion with someone who is completely my opposite (politically and religiously) without it getting heated or anyone getting upset!

You mean like how it's supposed to be? Congratulations, you are a normal person capable of basic conversation! This is a skill (totally seriously) that most people lack.
  • Yeah, exactly. I've found, though, that especially in the current climate people are very likely to get heated over politics. To be honest, though, usually it's not me getting angry. I'm fairly able to remain emotionally detached and just consider the facts.
  • Weighted in and I'm now 220 instead of 238 which I was two weeks ago. Medifast definitely works, we'll see how I hold it off.

As my roommate and I put, this is how the conversation involving these things should go.
Guy 1: "Hey, (friend's name here), do you have any religious beliefs?"
Guy 2: "Actually, I'm an Atheist."
    Guy 1: "Oh, I'm a Christian."
    Guy 2: "M'kay."
    Guy 1: "Cool."

Pff, almost every time it comes up I have two-hour discussions on the topics of religion and philosophy with my Christian friends. If they can't hold their own during an in-depth conversation about their core beliefs we're probably not good friends.

I have only ever gotten into a religious argument with one Christian, and even then it was only twice. All others have been with atheists.

Holding your own in an argument is good...But why have the damned argument?
  • Holding your own in an argument is good...But why have the damned argument?
Probably because good friends don't pussyfoot around each other about what makes them tick. I don't hold anything against my Christian friends but I do inquire on why they feel like they do about religion from time to time and vice versa with them to me. Your mileage may vary but it's good to get into a deep conversation with your friends about it occasionally. Gives you deeper insight into who they are.

Sometimes the discussion is interesting, and I have had interesting discussions on this topic with people of varying different belief systems, but my ultimate point is that neither person should really care what the other believes; It's not necessarily relevant to the friendship. Some closer friendships might require you to really know what a person believes so you have a good judge of their character, but so many people insist on having the argument with anyone they make the acquaintance of. It's really a discussion to only be had between close friends.
  • I took on my long and relentless fear of needles and donated blood today, the doctors where laughing at me on how much I was shaking, but I fucking did it! Take that, fear!

    ...and I got a cool T-shirt. 8D

Awesome! I just accidentally cut myself and am on an NSAID so we'll see if it stops bleeding. Otherwise I might need to steal some of your blood. :)

Found the coolest bar in Newcastle. It's a place called Trent House. Things it has going for it:

    1) Seems to be a converted house. The shelves behind the bar are hand-tiled, and the sparse (less than 50 bottles) liquor selection gives the distinct impression that you're in a cool, local place. There's two floors with maybe 100 seats total, and there's a few open mics each week. It's in a nice neighborhood, wedged between some nice houses, the hospital, a huge park, our dorms, and the city center.
    2) An unusually good selection of Scotches and Bourbons. Laphroaig and Woodford Reserve were both on display.
    3) Five different cask ales on tap at any time.
    4) The bar sells hot toasties and rolling tobacco.
    5) There's a jukebox. Plays are free and anyone can bring in a CD and add it to the collection. Groups and artists represented? Shellac, Big Black, the Mountain Goats, Neutral Milk Hotel, Venetian Snares, Primal Scream, David Bowie, Flying Lotus, They Might Be Giants, Neu, Tom Waits, and others.

I declared it our group's new hangout. It is awesome.

    Lagavulin 16 is better.

Sorry, couldn't hear you over how awesome the music of Steve Albini is making this pub.
