  • Found the coolest bar in Newcastle. It's a place called Trent House. Things it has going for it:

    1) Seems to be a converted house. The shelves behind the bar are hand-tiled, and the sparse (less than 50 bottles) liquor selection gives the distinct impression that you're in a cool, local place. There's two floors with maybe 100 seats total, and there's a few open mics each week. It's in a nice neighborhood, wedged between some nice houses, the hospital, a huge park, our dorms, and the city center.
    2) An unusually good selection of Scotches and Bourbons. Laphroaig and Woodford Reserve were both on display.
    3) Five different cask ales on tap at any time.
    4) The bar sells hot toasties and rolling tobacco.
    5) There's a jukebox. Plays are free and anyone can bring in a CD and add it to the collection. Groups and artists represented? Shellac, Big Black, the Mountain Goats, Neutral Milk Hotel, Venetian Snares, Primal Scream, David Bowie, Flying Lotus, They Might Be Giants, Neu, Tom Waits, and others.

I declared it our group's new hangout. It is awesome.
It can't beat my local pub that has board games, 50's nights, a wide selection gins and a group editable Spotify playlist! They are a bit lacking on the beer though.

  • Holding your own in an argument is good...But why have the damned argument?
Because if they can hold their own it means there is something valid about their beliefs that I do not fully understand. I've learned a lot from my friends and vise versa. Ideally an argument isn't a method of proving dominance or correctness, but a method of testing and passing on knowledge. It's what people like my friends and I do when we care about each other.

    Plus arguments are fun.

You can also play any PS game for free on your PS if it's modded and you have a CD burner.

  • I broke down and bought some Lucky goddamn Charms and some milk. I haven't had that cereal for probably a decade and a half.

I managed to grab a good shot of my two cats napping together. They do it a lot (they are very close) but they usually get up when they hear the camera. Added bonus in that their paws are intertwined.
  • Your cats are dawwwww-dorable. ^_^
  • It was preceded by a lot of headlock-licks.
  • My involuntary reflexes in my right leg have completely recovered, after being essentially gone a few months post surgery.
    I'm Wolverine.
  • Aw shit?
  • Parents of an ex-boyfriend of a friend of my ex-girlfriend arranged to leave a house full of furniture in my cellar for a few years while they moved away from Berlin. They were paying 30 euro per month, though it was arranged via my ex-girlfriend so I had no idea when was the last time they paid. Today they dropped by to check on their stuff, as they are moving back to Berlin in November.

And they paid me all the due rent! Wheeeee! It's like bonus money from nowhere, an extra 600 euro to spend on whatever I want!*

    * My own rent.
  • I have a project due at the end of the quarter where I have to interview an influential music industry professional, and managed to meet with Mike Simpson of The Dust Brothers. Just got back and it went great. I was very lucky to get to talk to someone whose work I'm so familiar with, so I'm pretty stoked.

  • Got a second LCD monitor at a thrift shop for $1.50. Woo back to dual monitors for me.
  • My threadless shirts arrived!
