Pokemon Black and White

  • So, a fun story.

My friends had been going through a really tough breakup, and it sucked for everyone, because I've never seen anyone better paired than these two. The female half, a friend dating back to high school, would regularly call me bawling to explain that she felt utterly alone and had lost her best friend and didn't think she could ever love anyone again. There were a couple days where I'm pretty sure she just didn't get out of bed except to acquire alcohol. It was all very ugly; she also called to tell me she absolutely couldn't live in Chicago this summer and needed to get as far away from here as possible because she couldn't bear to live so close to this guy but be apart from him.

The other day, we went to dinner and she told me, "[He] called me last night."
    "And?"
"He wanted to know what version of Pokemon I got so he can get the other one."

Last night, a few days past that event, we chilled at her place and he iChatted in after immediately breaking it off with some girl he met and stating that "my priorities are straightened out, okay?" The two of them talked about and played pokemon all night.

TL;DR: Pokemon got my friends back together.

Ahahaha, I started reading that wondering if you had posted it in the wrong thread since it seemed so unrelated. But that's fucking awesome, it made me smile.
  • for a guy who is interested but has never played Pokemon and who will play it primarily offline and forever alone is it worth getting B/W or should I just try to get one of the other games for cheap?
  • should I just try to get one of the other games for cheap?
I highly recommend getting Fire Red or Leaf Green for cheap if you have a GBA or a compatible DS.
  • I would say B/W is a good game to get the thrill of seeing new pokemon. I constantly feel like I'm 6 years old again.

But, FireRed and LeafGreen are great games and are worth more than the cheapo value you can get them for. I still have my copy of FireRed and play it every week or so.
  • Playing Pokemon and all I see is blonde, brunette, readhead makes me realise how long my inner child has been dead.

Eh, honestly for a first game I think Gold/Silver or HeartGold/SoulSilver (depending on what handhelds you own, and what the availability and prices of those games are in your area) would be the best. 16 gyms and 2 regions? Can't beat it.

Just wondering, but how are you not getting bored with it? What kinda stuff do you still do in the games? I put 250 into Gold, 150 into Ruby, 100ish into Pearl, 50ish into LeafGreen, and 150ish into HeartGold, and by those times I feel like I've done everything I could possibly want to do in the games, so just playing them more would probably get boring for me.

As for B/W, my friend works at Gamestop (and owes me a lot for all the work I've been doing for our computer class all quarter) and got me a copy of Pokemon White. But since it came out, I've been really busy with homework and studying for finals, and also being addicted to 999 for DS, so I haven't started it yet. I'll probably put 20+ hours into it though over spring break. Looking forward to playing it.

I agree that Gold and Silver are my favorite games, but a big part of that is already being familiar with Kanto and the eerie sense of time passed you get when revisiting it in GS.
  • I know we're supposed to restrict this sort of stuff to IDShare, but no one has updated theirs and I want friend codes. Mine is 3052-6939-8994

I'm a weird kid, and I get some odd happiness from EV training Pokemon that I've loved since I first knew about them, and seeing if I can make them a) worth my time, or b) used in a useful, but odd way. Also, at one point, I decided FireRed would be my first Nuzlocke, and so every once in a while I'll push through a bit then do something else. Right now I'm trying a Nuzlocke with Charmander as my starter, and I'm a bit past Brock.

I'm starting my game, and I'm working on IV&EV training this time around. Should I keep doing rerolls of my starter until I get a high IV?

EDIT: Fuck that. I'm not playing through a half-hour sequence dozens of times for a minor stat boost.

  • Don't bother with IVs and shit until you've beaten the main game.
  • Archen is the most useless Pokemon ever. It's rock type, yet still retains a massive weakness to electricity because it's also flying type. I'm hoping and praying that after it evolves it will lose some of that weakness.

It really doesn't, and to top it off, it's ability also sucks.

Ffffff. If I drop it from my team, I'd have two empty slots to fill, but they'd need to collectively cover ground/rock, flying, and electricity. Too bad I don't think there are any electric birds in this game :/

I suppose I could drop Victini, and then I could go catch one of those psychic birds from around Relic Castle, which would mean I could have dedicated rock and electric Pokemon fill the remaining two slots. That might be the way to go.

  • If you're looking for a good Electric Pokemon, go with Blitzle/Zebstrika. Blitzle starts out sucking, but oh mans does it get amazing as it levels. Wicked fast and pretty damn strong equals a good combination.

I'm thinking that I'm going to breed my team and start doing some EV training. Anyone have any suggestions for a newbie to the whole EV thing?
  • Gonna trade my insanely powerful Starmie over to my Pokemon Black eventually. Lvl 75, has a move that is super-effective against pretty much every other type.

Starmie is easily one of the best Pokemon ever. Mine knows Surf, Ice Beam, Psychic, and Thunderbolt and can kill EVERYTHING.
  • That's my moveset. It's like the golden gun of Pokemon. I'm planning on assembling a team of six just for kicks.
  • team of six
    Geodudes?
  • Can't lose.

Ha ha, pulled the video from your post, where you screwed up the code for posting videos, thus the FTFY. I'll ditch the video, now that I've fixed it.

  • In Celestial Tower, I have:

    Saburo the Samurott (lvl. 38)
Bender the Gurdurr (lvl. 35) [If someone wants to help me evolve it, that would be awesome]
Doctor Who the Klink (lvl. 30)
MC Hammer the Scraggy (lvl. 29)
    Zubat the Swoobat (lvl. 27)
Blue Bell the Vanillite (lvl. 21)

I'm digging my Bender and Saburo combo, but The Doctor seems kinda useless at this point. I'm looking forward to using Candlejack (Litwick) after this area. I'll edit this to put my friend code in soon.

    Zapee the Eelektrik (lv. 39)

I acquired a large amount of Army rations - about a pallet's worth of Six day rat packs - through means best left undescribed, and I just organized with a mate of mine who works for a shipping company to have them Air-freighted over ASAP at the company's expense. Plane takes off in about twenty minutes.
(Just realized wrong thread, but I'm leaving it here. Fuck it.)
