Starbucks has released a new coffee maker, called the Verismo, a pod coffee maker. It's literally identical to my 60 dollar pod coffee machine, that I bought at Aldi, with only slight cosmetic differences. Oh, and they're charging 200-300 dollars for it.
I also wish PAX Australia would just announce already, so that A)People will shut up about "It should obviously be in (City they live in), just because" or just randomly shouting city names, and B)People can stop fucking attacking each other about which city is better, and just get down to the business of loving PAX Australia.

Did they even say what year it's coming? I know they had the idea for a Boston PAX years before it became a reality.

Yeah, the announced it for next year. So, naturally, everyone from Sydney thinks it should obviously be in Sydney, because Melbourne is a pretentious art-wank hipster town that has 22 conventions already, has shit weather and poor transport, and Brisbane is a redneck country town where nobody would want to be, and they have no facilities whatsoever.
Everybody from Melbourne thinks it should be in Melbourne, because they've nominated themselves the "Arts capital" of Australia, because they have 22 major conventions already, it's clearly a good place to hold them, and Sydney is a race-rioting shithole with all the culture of sterile lab glassware, enormous traffic and transport problems, and everywhere they could hold it is either Under renovation(Sydney convention center) till the end of next year, or insanely expensive(Olympic park, which would make it the most expensive PAX ever held), and because Brisbane is a small redneck country town where nobody you'd consider fashionable would ever want to be, and has less culture than Sydney.
People from Brisbane, seem to be hopeful, and are not really putting the other cities down, and just seem to be super stoked that PAX is coming to Australia, we don't really seem to care where it is, as much as we hope it's here. Mostly because we're used to major international events being is Sydney and Melbourne, since nobody knows that we exist or where we are, except for a crowd of geeks that either have a friend here, or know that there is a Mana Bar here.
Sounds like it should go to Brisbane, that loveable under dog.
I'll be honest, it's kinda what we've been for quite a while. Smaller in population than Sydney or Melbourne, and a younger city, too, we're the runt of the East Coast litter.
For a long time, it didn't have much of an identity, and we kinda tried to half-assedly imitate the other two, but over the last twenty years or so, the city has really found it's own identity. Not only as the middle ground between Melbourne's art and history focus, and Sydney's facade of touristy stuff built over a stout foundation of business and industry, but also with it's own laid-back attitude and come-as-you-are vibe, none of the middle child, acting-out-but-taking-itself-very-seriously kinda feeling of Melbourne, and without the aloof I'm-the-eldest-I-must-set-a-proper-example coldness of Sydney.
And, yeah, we don't really go after Sydney and Melbourne that much, despite the amount of shit they heap on us for being Rednecks, backwards and what have you - We're kinda like the younger kid who looked up to it's bigger brothers, and took elements of their personality in their gawky, awkward teenage years, trying to be something it was not, but it's now come into it's adulthood, finally forming a personality of it's own, while still incorporating the elements of the others - The Solid business foundation of Sydney without becoming cold and consumed by it, and the Art/history focus of Melbourne without getting obsessive or pretentious about it - along with a welcoming and friendly attitude, and a laid back attitude.
TL:DR - The three cities are three brothers. Brisbane is the youngest and smallest, but full of panache and friendliness. Sydney and melbourne are the eldest and middle brother respectively, fighting for supremacy, while Brisbane has done it's own thing in the background, and really come into itself.
Or, in other terms: Sydney is the body, Melbourne is the heart, but Brisbane is the Soul.
I'd laugh if they decided to hold it in Perth instead. Just circumvent the entire discussion as I currently know it.
That would be amazing, I'd laugh myself stupid. Then I'd book my plane ticket.
If I could confirm my coming, how'd you feel about driving there?
To Perth? Maybe. It'd be a hell of an expense in fuel, and we'd need to borrow a vehicle - As good as the van is, I wouldn't trust it for a trip of that length - but I think I could handle that. We'd have to set aside some time, though, It'd be a little different from driving across in the shortest possible time to go surfing. But we might be able to sort something out, I know a bunch of good shit on the way, too.
Someone was using this server to send spam. No idea how that happened. When I setup the email I specifically followed instructions to prevent it from being an open relay. I checked and they did not break the SSH or anything. They must have been exploiting the mail server directly on port 25. It is an older version of Ubuntu that is no longer patched. Maybe it has a security hole.
Anyway. I completely turned off email on the server. Instead I switched this forum and my wordpress blog to use Amazon SES. The Wordpresses work, but I'm not sure if this forum does. I need to trick it into sending me emails.
I've often asked for things to be sent to a friend in the USA, and then they post it on to me. Packages get held up in a tax office until you go and pay import tax. Packages that look more like gifts get right through. In other words, if there is business postage information or invoices on the package, it can cause problems.
Shipping is crazy expensive... Either that or the US Postal Service isn't the best place to go. My wife wanted to mail a few boxes of Kraft Mac and Cheese to my niece, who moved to Ireland (where they don't sell it) with her mom about a year back. The USPS was going to charge something like $500 to mail it over...

That's not right. I've mailed things quite far for a much more reasonable rate at the USPS. I'm willing to bet you did something wrong.

I find it odd that the buyer is from Australia, but I'm shipping to a different person in Colorado. It's probably legit, but it stuck out to me.
