Middle of the road episode for me, but that's still very good. All of the worldbuilding was awesome even if Equestria's history is getting so crowded you have to pick and choose which things are false memories, exaggerations, etc.

The history isn't really that crowded. This episode showed us the founding of Ponyville, while the Hearth's Warming Eve episode was about Equestria's founding.

Not to mention these events are all hundreds (if not thousands, when it comes to Hearth's Warming->Discord->Nightmare Moon) of years apart. It's hardly complicated.
Well, was Ponyville founded "hundreds" of years ago (WWU) or within Granny Smith's lifetime? You can say ponies live hundreds of years, or that there were already some farmers living on the plain but the Apple family farm is what led to an incorporated Ponyville, or that Granny was embellishing her story or Twilight was being loose with her early morning comment to Spike, but there's certainly friction there.
Same thing, albeit less of an issue, with HWE/RoH. I assume Discord came after the Windigos, perhaps even several eras later. Why didn't the chaos and fighting he promotes cause society-wrecking blizzards? I chalk it up to HWE being a mostly apocryphal story, or maybe there were blizzards but Celestia hasn't mentioned it, or the Windigos were more permanently defeated at some point, but again you need to do a little work to lessen the friction between these elements. That's all I'm saying.
Also, seriously, what the hell is up with Diamond Tiara? I wouldn't complain so much about a shallow character, but she got so much stupid screen time. Compared to everyone else, she's just evil and nasty...just because. But I did enjoy how her dad went. "Bitch, go help your elders."

She's a spoiled little bitch. Unfortunately, ponies like that exist.

Eh, she's a kid.
What i do fault is how she remain very stereotypical, but perhaps it is the slight changes in attitude they made to Silver Spoon that seems to highlight that fact more than usual.

Silver Spoon wasn't lumped in with her, and was the first to clap at Granny Smith's story. Plus it kind of hit me like. "A tiara is probably the most worthless piece of jewelry there is." Even after Apple Bloom said "You're family probably wouldn't be rich if not for my family", the kids didn't laugh, they were just kind of intrigued that it's a very true fact. But I think you hit the nail on the head that she's just a stereotypical mean girl and nothing else.
Diamond Tiara annoys the hell out of me. I wish we could get inside her head a little bit, because I want kids to see that those sorts of people generally have major insecurities and weaknesses... and are still total jerks undeserving of sympathy. Maybe we'll get a plot where Silver Spoon abandons her at some point, I was really glad to see her clapping first which put at least a little nuance on those characters.
Diamond Tiara is just an antagonist for the sake of story needing an antagonist and I'm ok with that. Sometimes what story needs is an antagonist, just to be there to be opposition to the protagonist and Diamond Tiara works that role towards Apple Bloom quite well. Every minor, secondary character doesn't need deep explanation to their motivations for acting in a certain way. What character does is ofter more important than why character does something.
In a recent discussion I had about lanyards for PAX East on G+, I got to thinking about perhaps making crocheted lanyards in the color scheme of the Mane Six with perhaps some sort of trinket attached with their cutie mark.
I wonder if I can pull this off, perhaps make a bulk of them and sell them to anyone who's interested.
I did see these lanyards on sale on Etsy, but I don't like nylon. I do like the charms she created. I was thinking something similar along these lines.
I never really got into jewelry making. Just something to ponder.

Right thread this time.
I love that vid. It's a little Pinkmena crazy angst, but the clips they chose were perfect.
