maybe Cadance doesn't have faith in the crystal ponies' abilities. What we're seeing could be pony racisim.
Pony racism? Not necessarily. The Crystal Ponies have been basically "frozen" for how long? It's entirely possible they haven't fully acclimated to modern customs and such, similar to how Princess Luna was still talking using the royal "we" and basically shouting out her lines on the Nightmare Night episode due to that's how they spoke "back in the day."
It's apparantly a spin off series to MLP: FIM. Will not affect the main story itself, but Im just impressed at this point that a spin off was even made. Also is probably the reason for them trademarking the term Equestria Girls last year.
As I am an immense fan of humanized ponies, I am 100% for this. Though I hope they vary the character models a bit more. RD's knee high sneakers are ridiculous.
I have very little hope for a humanized pony series, and would much prefer just more Equestria with possibly different characters (teenage CMC y/y).
That said, my instincts say that the body shapes of the Mane Six in that "leaked" shot are too close to being identical, and also very similar to the protagonist of Littlest Pet Shop. Dollars to donuts it's fake, or at least very different from how the show will actually turn out. (Consider that it's not even being officially announced until SDCC in July).
Someone pun this up a bit more. Equesmos.. the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Celestia. It's continuing mission, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new friends and increase harmony. To loyally befriend who no pony has before.
In addition to a general horror, that image reminded me of that old cartoon, Doug. Probably because of the weird skin tones. Applejack has the proper skin/hair color as Girl Whose Name Escapes Me, and Rainbow Dash has the same grotesque blue skin as Skeeter.

We've seen MUCH stranger hair/skin colors in anime.
You know, that is one thing they don't have to deal with by sticking to the original color palette. No one can accuse them for representing one race/ethnicity in favor of another because then they'll just turn around and say, "One of them is blue, one of them is purple, another one has pink hair, one of them is orange... exactly what race are we favoring? The Andorians? The Asari? The Benzites? The Edosians?"
Without spoiling the plot, here's what I think about the episode.
It felt rushed. Not in the sense of production quality (that was through the roof) but in terms of the narrative. It looked like an hour long show was condensed into a half hour show. But, to some degree, I can forgive that. It was a very musical episode. In fact, it was likely the MOST musical episode. And that may have been part of its problem. It was tripping over itself in songs. Now, hear me, it wasn't a BAD episode. It just felt... weird. We all knew what point B was going to be, and it got us there from point A just fine. But the plot they had was too quickly resolved. It just wasn't up to par for the other finales they've had. Yes, there was a serious problem, but it's solution was figured out out too quickly. There was no time to build up the drama or suspense. No question about whether or not the problem would be resolved. And the reason for the problem in the first place was basically a character having their curiosity blow up in their face (in a flashback, of all things). It seemed forced. And while it was totally in character for the character to have done what they did, it felt like the consequences should have been greater. Or at least the solution.
It was NOT one of their best.
What a non-episode for a season finale...
Yes. If it didn't have that enormous plot development it could have been skipped.
Also, Pinkie may or may not be getting Flanderized...
She just got those damn wings and she can already fly? What the hell?
I was really charmed by the musical parts of the episode, which made me probably forgive a lot of the rushed parts. Loved that the conflict started early. But this does certainly open more questions than answers then, but I appreciated how they tied up some issues along the way and had some clever call backs. I can't say it's great, but it absolutely was a treat to watch.
And I hear this is part of a 3-Parter, so I'm wondering what they'll answer in those next two episodes. You could have ended it technically on one part in the middle, but I bet that would have angered/saddened a lot of kids.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

What you got:
Enjoy the despair.

Edit: And this was something I didn't even know existed until just now.
Apparently MLP/Sherlock is now a thing.
