Found the exploration jackpot deep in the mines under my lighthouse. Massive underground fissure (Now named Deepfall.) which gives access to another mine that goes even deeper. Downside is that below this monsters are plentiful and I didn't have lava bucket as I had stashed it. Had stashed all the ore I snarked before I died. Might not be able to find the entrance again, as it was very easy to miss (Someone else had already gone past it.).
Also: Much as I wanted to build a wood and leaf lighthouse, the game glitched out the containment glass and set it on fire.
There is quite a large lava pool in Deepfall, so we may have lightstone when I find somewhere to put the portal. I'm strapped for space in the tower so if anyone wants to put it where they are, let me know.
Might have been me. I've been exploring a undersea ravine near my base. There is a stone bridge lighted up in there. That is far as I got and was done in by a grief of creepers.
Hey, whoever stole the netherrack out of my tent village's fire braziers without even replacing the dirt and stone, you are a dick. I challenge you to trial by combat, if you are man enough to admit your crimes and face me!

Sup! I took it those were generated and was going to come back and dismantle the tents for the wool.
I've got a portal set up so netherrack isn't important any more. I'm not sure what combat would achieve but I'm game if you are.

Haha, second time that's happened. I think I need a flashing billboard that says "Made by Cardelocke and not NPCs, you looting fucks!"
As for the combat: its purpose is to sate my bloodlust. I know a good spot in Alex's lava ravine. We'll duel to the death on a tiny bridge over a molten sea!
I'm trying something new. Midgard is now running the development version of bukkit, which gives me access to plugins again.
We now have two worlds running simultaneously - one in survival mode and one in creative mode (infinite resources, free building, flying, etc). There is a portal connecting the two near the spawn point of each world (taking the form of stone frames filled with water).
Feel free to travel between worlds/modes as you like, according to what form of Minecraft interests you. Note that the plugin I'm using appears to prevent the taking of resources from the creative world to the survival world, but not the reverse. Mostly, really, it's up to you what combination of the two modes you find interesting.
Hey @alex your server has an invalid key just like Sonic. Giving you the heads up.
Also, I'm not sure if anyone still has this problem, but if you do: it has nothing to do with my server and everything to do with minecraft.net. Quitting and reopening the client seems to be the best course of action if you encounter the error again.

Actually, there was a small issue with the server jar, in addition to the login server. There is a 1.0.1 version of the server jar just to fix that issue.
My daughter wants me to set her up with a minecraft server. Is this something I can run on my existing web server? What add-ons should I install?
As long as you have a static IP, you can run the server software on pretty much any machine. I recommend using CraftBukkit as a wrapper shell instead of the Vanilla software (it's very easy to use -- it takes about three minutes of scripting to get it set up). CraftBukkit has a laundry list of plugins for everything you can think of, from giving you infinite blocks in survival mode to generating novelty maps to making airships.
I would note you want to be able to dedicate 1GB of memory to the server. If by "web server" you mean you have a shared hosting account somewhere, I wouldn't expect to be able to run it.
And you can use DynDNS if you have a dynamic IP, or even a static one.

Nighttime shot where you can see the stars.

Bukkit hasn't caught up yet, so we're back in vanilla server territory for the moment.
I'm getting a "server responded with an invalid key" error.
