The Battlefield series has to be my favorite FPS ever. Beating Counter Strike, Half Life, Doom, Halo, Quake, Duke Nukem, Far Cry, Bond (Golden Eye), Call of Duty, Star Wars Anything (Battlefront), Unreal, or anything! I mean this series is just so fucking awesome. It's much like Unreal Tournament 2004 (you capture flags and can use vehicles) and Counter-Strike (present-time war, weapons, and setup). This game is a everything-simulator in war. In Battlefield 1942 you could control everything from submarines, to destroyers, tanks, jeeps, and bombers/planes. It's always been a leader for graphics in FPS games since it came out, even it's unoffical mods were highly detailed and coordinated. Battlefield Vietnam was just some good re-hash but had some annoying problems (first person flying was impossible). But now Battlefield 2, holy shit this game is awesome. Now you can be a commander and monitor/administer the battlefield from a top-down sattalite feed. Or you can join into squads and spawn near each other and request things of the commander. One of the best new features is a global ranking system that lets you earn upgrade guns for higher ranks. And the ranks aren't done by numbers but by real military rankings.

But god damn, fuck you Star Wars: Battlefront! This is such a bad rip of Battlefield. All you need is the Star Wars mod for Battlefield 1942 to see what a horrible rip it is. I mean sure battlefield took the main concepts of unreal's gameplay engine but they made it their own. Like how skateboarders show off their best tricks and others improve upon them enough so they get their own name. Battlefront just took Battlefield and basically sold the Star Wars mod as a stand alone.

Who else plays the Battlefield series? Who's thought about it but hasn't played it yet? If you haven't even given it a try, you must go to a friend's house and play it as soon as possible.

What about people who hate it. Are any of you in that crowd?

I've played the demo. It was fun, but laser tag is more fun, and better exercise.

Ok quick question. does anything beat BF2? I'm trying to get my freinds into BF2 because its cheap and a really fun lan game. i wanted to see if Bad Company or Bad Company 2 was at all better than it.

I've played BF 2, Vietnam and 2142. I really enjoy them too, but casually I like playing Modern Warfare 2 because it's faster paced and rounds are shorter. But I like them all.

My buddies that play both have put it this way: MW2 is more of a single-player, run-n-gun FPS while Bad Company 2 is more tactical and squad-based. They play an insane amount of FPS games and have tended more towards playing BC2. I have played neither, and as such can offer no direct opinion, but I trust them and would take their word for what it's worth.

I agree. In most rounds of MW2 one good player can make the team win, on BF that is not the case.

The underground sequence made me realise how much better that game would be if it was set in the city of Mirror's Edge.

It would also be a lot better with insta-chuts, mid-air-proning, not taking damage by jumping onto or off objects moving very fast, and if your character could keep his head and eyes still while moving around. Also, did stuff at super human speeds. Hopefully someone will make a mod of it that'll fully realize it's potential, by doing that stuff and removing all the long animations. Ideally also replace all the textures with various bright colors. And then they might as well also remove lens flare and any lighting or shading effect that would obscure your vision.
