Alright, Pokemon #000, theyr'e just pulling bits out of a bag and putting them together.

    It's like a bat-rabbit-ball-sack thing.

  • Aww, I think I want one.
  • That thing has a high seed stat, mediocre attack and hp and def stats worth shit.
  • so I will lose no matter what.
Hmm... You know what would be fun? Use ROMs and just hack together your perfect EV trained maximized teams, then fight.
    Such things exist.
Shoddy Battle Pretty much the WoW with infinite customization except with Pokemon
There's also a fairly large meta-game attached, Smogon. (There is tiering, clauses, etc. so arguably this isn't even Pokemon much less Pokemon with Rules to make it a Competitive Game)

Going back to what Scott said, it's not as easy as constantly switching your Pokemon around. Environmental factors like Stealth Rocks, Spikes, and Toxic Spikes can totally destroy someone who switches around a lot.

You guys should really check out Shoddy Battle/ Smogon. It's very much a skilled game with very relatively smart people in their forums.
  • Pokemon-Online is the other battle simulator on the intertubes. The netcode is a little worse than shoddy, but it has double battles.

Smogon's rules exist because 6v6 singles Pokemon is flawed. The current theory is the multiplayer stuff of Pokemon is balanced around double battles. Things like stealth rock, evasion, spamming sleep moves, and most of the "banned" Pokemon are not horribly broken. I personally think things are going to be rebalanced for the upcoming triple battles. The hidden stats are always bullshit and only exist to placate children with too much time on their hands.

What do you mean by this, Mr. Breloom?
  • SPORE, SWORDS DANCE, KILL, KILL, KILL, KILL.
  • New games will feature new Pokemon only. At least, until you beat it.
Yesssss. No fucking Zubats or Geodudes until I beat the game! I am so freaking excited!
  • The absence of zubat makes me happy. :) But I trade a riolu over to every game I've got from 4th gen on. I hope they'll let me do that at least.
  • They will once you beat the Elite Four and get a National Dex, I imagine.

They are time wasting mechanics that have nothing to do with the actual battling component of the game. It would be like if one player's hadoken did double damage in Street Fighter because he jumped up and down for a week.

I'm pleased that we're getting new Pokemon for the journey. The gear mode sorta looks like Monster Hunter style Pokemon missions but less cool then that sounds.
  • It would be like if one player's hadoken did double damage in Street Fighter because he jumped up and down for a week.
Eh, more like practising his Hadouken all day for a week. IVs are bullshit yet, EVs should not be hidden.

Yup. So that means new zubats and geodudes. See ugly flying ball of fluff with tongue and eye.
  • Yup. So that means new zubats and geodudes. See ugly flying ball of fluff with tongue and eye.
At least it will be something different, though. I am so tired of seeing Zubat and Geodude hundreds of times in every game since 1998. I'm sure I'll get annoyed with Zubat and Geodude 2.0, but it will feel refreshing at first.

Definitely. They're just going to have two or three other Pokemon that appear over and over and over again.

That being said, I fucking love the new Caterpie:

Meh, old caterpie is better. This looks like caterpie got vampired.

Nah, that's only if you catch a shiny one.
  • Definitely. They're just going to have two or three other Pokemon that appear over and over and over again.
While I know this is true, there's still a happy voice in the back of my mind constantly chiming, "but it won't be Zubat!!"

Will it really be different? Just a different skin? Maybe a slightly different movepool, different cosmetic data, maybe a worse cry. Also, use fucking repels. They have existed since generation 1 for a fucking reason.
That being said, I fucking love the new Caterpie:
That bugger better fucking evolve into one of those walking leaves or I'm going to be disappointed as fuck. Also datgrass.jpg
  • Also, use fucking repels.
I use repel a lot. The problem is that if you use it too much, you won't level up enough. Nothing worse than having to turn around and grind.
  • I prefer the non-fucking repel, personally. It's much cleaner.
  • The problem is that if you use it too much, you won't level up enough.
Fight all trainers. Problem solved. You can use potions in battles, and don't have a lot of ether/elixir available. No need risking running out of PP in the middle of a cave with trainers yet to fight.
I prefer the non-fucking repel, personally. It's much cleaner.
    Details. Both work fine.

Been reading Pokemon Adventures and I think Eevee's evolutions through the generations are a good example of the shift from the clearer, take two basic things and whack them together, to the more complex motif style we see today.

Vaporeon (Gen 1) and Glaceon (Gen 4).

  • Play!Pokemon

Looks like a fine example of Nintendo almost doing the right thing.

    [pokemon]
They both seem about equal style wise, there are far better examples.

Generation V is being very good towards Electric Pokemon fans.
  • It's like a flying squirrel version of Pichu.
  • Electric Pokemon must be either:
    a) boring
    or
    b) small and furry
