  • I think making a Weekend At Bernies video game would be awesome.

I realized just now that the reason I don't watch any more serious, gory, or action anime and really only watch funny, silly, slice of life shows is because I use it as an escape from the stresses of my life. I worry that I'm missing a lot of good shows just because I use anime more as a psychological release valve than appreciating it for the art that it is. And, while this does bother me to a certain degree, I recognize the importance of the role it's playing in my life as a therapeutic use of the art.

  • I hate being sick while is beautiful outside :(
  • I feel like I should get a button like my buddy Grant here, so I can see a smile when I look down.

  • That's pretty great.
  • I only just heard Dylan's album version of All Along the Watchtower. I liked the instrumentation of when I saw him play it live more. I feel generally more positive about that concert now, really.

There was a black racer (snake) on my driveway when I went to work and I learned two things today because of it. They can be very slow moving snakes when they know you are not going to harm then and my wife has an irrational fear of snakes. She wanted me to kill it and when I would not she was quite unhappy. I tried to get a picture of it but my phone picked up glare somewhere and it was gone before I could get another shot. I think the snake has been hanging around my house due to some unexpected little furry house guests I have noticed from their droppings in my garage. If I can track it down and get some decent shots I will post them on here.

  • I saw a pair of them getting it on on my way home from school once.

As many times as I have seen that snake, or snakes in general really, I have never seen them mating, although I have always lived near heavily wooded areas so they have had a good bit of cover. They are gorgeous snake and my favorite to come across randomly.

Haha, that is the slowest I have seen one of them move so the name is normally fitting. In retrospect it was a bit chilly outside so that could be why it was slower than normal.

Are you sure it was a black racer and not a black rat snake? They look pretty similar as adults.

Also: snakes are awesome, just like spiders. They eat the things I don't want in my house. Just, y'know, avoid the poison ones.

Yeah, black rat snakes have a bit larger heads and thicker bodies. Also I complete agree that snakes are awesome although I am not fond of them being pets.
  • Don't tell me you'll "Save me the trouble" of unfriending you on Facebook because *you* disagree with something *I* said. You're being silly. The implication of course is that I can't handle your differing opinion when the obvious reality is that you can't handle mine, you chickenshit.
  • Yet another fucking nosebleed.
  • Jeremy is on his way to get Eclipse. B&N won't put the damn thing on hold because it's on "clearance". BS.

It's ok, still worth that price cut if he can get it.

  • Went to a show at Bowery Ballroom on Saturday. Didn't know some of the bands. Pretty surprised when The Clash at Demonhead came on:

They're actually called White Lung. They are Canadian, though!
  • So I seared some tuna steak (medium rare) while watching Django Unchained. I started eating it during the shoot out, and I didn't even care.
It was good tuna at that.
  • tuna steak
    medium rare

You misspelled "I ruined some tuna steak..."
  • Not undercooked enough for you?
  • I like cooking a tuna steak so only the outside is cooked, leaving the inside raw. A few drops of lemon and a pinch of salt, and it's done. The combination of flavors and textures is to die for.

*Note: I only do this with high-quality tuna. Sushi preparation rules apply.

I think that my favorite little machine shop fact is that there is only one powered tool that can be used to build itself - The Lathe.

The lathe is also quite seriously my favorite tool. Give me a lathe, and I'll make you the world. Welders are maybe second.

No, I learned that from my father, ages ago. Haven't seen that video, but I did watch a video about Adam Savage's lathe, after having an extended flick through the local trade-tools Product catalogs. I live within a few klicks of a quite industrialized area, and there's a ton of outlets for industrial tools and machinery, and they mail or email me catalogs from time to time - since I've bought things from a few of them before.

I'll watch that video, though - thanks for that - and I'll trade you with the one I did watch, and the one that led me to it, about a bloke making a titanium-palladium ring for his mate, a project I might replicate.

Sadly, though, it's quite difficult to make a foot-powered metal lathe, as you need a lot higher RPMs and a lot more torque to turn metal, than you do to turn wood. Not impossible by any stretch, but certainly harder. I'm more of a metal guy than a wood-turner, though I do know how.

  • ATTORNEY: Now doctor, isn't it true that when a person dies in his sleep, he doesn't know about it until the next morning?
WITNESS: Did you actually pass the bar exam?
  • I'm looking for a summer job/internship right now. One place gives you an opportunity to intern at a local newspaper. "The program allows youth to try writing about issues relevant to today..." alright, I'm good at writing non-fiction and enjoy it, this sounds good "...that teens care about." Well, I guess I'm not qualified. I know less about what teens care about than a 65 year old white man -- he can at least ask his grandkids. If I ran a gossip column, it would be about Margaret Eaton.
  • I just heard the best name for a metal band on Fox: Raining Fetuses and Blood.
  • Anyone else notice how much Adam Sandler and Jerry Seinfeld look alike? Seinfeld was in my town with Letterman and when I saw the picture I was wondering why Sandler was hanging with Letterman.
