  • American Football can go fuck itself. The players and fans of all their teams are a bunch of disgusting human beings. You may win a game here and there, but you lose at life.

Scott really should stop twittering about football. It never ends well.

On the other hand, the Flyers mauled the Rangers yesterday and the Eagles scored four 4th Quarter Touchdowns to rally against the Giants and win. Philly 2 - Scott 0. And that's only this weekend. Anybody know if Scott is a Mets or Yanks fan?
Philly can go phuck itself. The players and fans of all their teams are a bunch of disgusting human beings. You may win a game here and there, but you lose at life. Go on Youtube and search for "Eagles fans" or "Phillies fans" and compare it to what you find when searching for Giants or Mets fans. We may boo our own players for sucking, but we're not going to boo at santa or unleash a non-stop assault of snowballs on visiting fans. Maybe some trash talk, but not violence.

Compare how the Giants players and staff conduct themselves on and off the field with class and dignity. No cheerleaders, no moronic antics near the endzone. Giants are also one of the only five NFL teams classy enough not to have cheerleaders. When the Giants have criminals on the team, like Plaxico Burress, we kick their asses out, even if they caught the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl. Meanwhile, the Eagles are signing guys up as they walk out of jail. Even if you grew up in Philly rooting for that team, I don't know how a decent human being can associate themselves with those fans, and root for the dregs of humanity on that roster. I certainly would not continue rooting for the Giants if they lined up a roster of scum. Even Jeremy Shockey was over the line. Thankfully we replaced him with the Boss.

I also don't know how anyone can root for the Jets, who are almost as disgusting as the Eagles. And while the Yankees have class, they're also the evil team. If you watch The Mighty Ducks, and you root for the evil team, just GTFO. I'll steal a line from a comedian I saw on the Internet and say that rooting for the Yankees is like going to a casino and rooting for the house to win.

Yay, cliches and personal insults all-round. Can you make that post without a generalization? Or bringing up something that happened over 40 years ago? You do realize that the Santa incident had little to do with it being Santa, and much more with a 2-12 team and completely frustrated fans watching another terrible loss while sitting in a snowstorm? And how the fuck does having cheerleaders have anything to do with class?

I also find it funny that when someone gets out of jail, a.k.a. having served the punishment that society bestowed upon him, he's still a complete taboo and needs to suffer for it eternally. Great attitude there.

The thing is, I caught you gloating and being an ass on twitter, which subsequently blew up in your face. I'm not making any retarded generalizations about people I don't even know. I'm not calling every Giants fan a dick, not even based on your behavior. However, there is evidence that YOU behaved like a dick, and the post above only enhances the notion of you being a dick.

  • Hotel wifi: €3 per hour, and only in the lobby. But I discovered that on the balcony I can pick up free wifi from the hotel next door. Idiots.

Plan: Set up cheap wifi on high strength antennas and point them at fancy hotels, people connect, pay via paypal (Like £3 a night.) and no-one's any the wiser unless they start using wireless tracking devices and testing people's MAC addresses.

It's not necessarily news, it's just the egregious hypocrisy that needs to be pointed out.

Nothing wrong with trash talking. That's perfectly OK, and encouraged. Take Boston for example. I have been to Fenway and Foxboro many times. Even if someone were to dare wear a Yankees hat up in there, they're perfectly ok. They'll get boo'd, yelled at, etc. Often they'll actually have clever things to yell at you that are legitimately funny, but they won't be in any actual danger. Wear a the wrong jersey to Philly however...

Or, Turn off the power at Giants Stadium during a game, And watch the Giants fans Calmly, Politely, beat the ever living shit out of each other, as well as cowboys supporters.

From the same game some other classy, polite Giants fans,

Oh look at these Gentlemen of class and distinction during a Giants/Jets game,

Or this lass hospitalised by a Giants fan, Most likely for A)Being a Packers Fan and B)Smack talking.

    Or how about, Quoth wikipedia,
December 23 – With the San Diego Chargers leading 27-17 during the fourth quarter of a game between the New York Giants and the Chargers at Giants Stadium, intoxicated Giants fans threw hundreds of snowballs and chunks of ice at Chargers players and team officials, injuring fifteen people; Chargers equipment manager Sid Brooks was knocked unconscious and had to be removed from the arena on a stretcher. 15 people were arrested and a further 175 were ejected, with 75 fans having their season tickets revoked. Following this incident, the NFL mandated that seating areas be cleared of all snow and ice prior to the opening of the stadium gates.
    Emphasis mine.

Let's face it, boys and girls. Scott is a Giants Fan, therefore Giants fans are the absolute pinnacle of American Football Fans, and if you disagree, well fuck you, fuck you all, you have no taste and are clearly the scum of the earth and Cubs fans, but I repeat myself.

It's a different fucking story, however, for those filthy Fans of the NSW Blues.

  • There's going to be individual incidents at any stadium you go to, mostly when alcohol is permitted to be sold. It's unavoidable. There are always bad eggs. That's just society. The point is that in Philly, it's endemic.
  • As an Eagles fan I'll say STFU or we'll beat the shit outa you.

Scott, you're getting a large group of people spanning a large group of people. It doesn't matter what team it is, Giants, Jets, Philly, etc, etc, you're always going to have a large amount of dickheads who want to do some combination of getting drunk and starting fights. Yeah, you're a pretty cool fan, and there are a legion of people like you for every team. If I want to know something about American football, I'd go to a fan like you, if not you specifically.

But really as groups go, it's a large amount of jackasses who are differentiated by little more than the names they're shouting and the colour of their Jerseys. Just as much as there are Maroons fans I despise just as much as Blues fans, and there are Fans of the few hockey teams I support who annoy me as much as fans of opposing teams. It's just a matter of bad eggs being endemic not across teams, but the entire sport.

It's simple - Give a large group of people a common enemy, and inevitably, some will get violent, because that is how they respond to things.

Edit - A good Article on the Guardian discussing the issue, as well as British Soccer Hooligans.

No, we're just gonna let it drop because Scott is actually right. Philly fans are the most violent in the NFL. There's a court house under the stadium to expedite the trying of these idiots.

Wat. Seriously? Okay, My being mis-informed about the NFL bites me in the Ass. Sorry about that - Append an asterisk to my above statement, with a footnote that says "Except philly. Fuck those guys."

I work within sight of Foxboro (now Gillette) Stadium, and love messing with people wearing other teams hats/jerseys/jackets/etc. I've even seen people walking into Fenway wearing Yankee's hats (when the Yankee's weren't playing) getting little more than a few boos and a gentle ribbing ("Oh, here to spy on us, eh?" type stuff). However, I was explicitly told "Don't wear a Red Sox hat to Yankee Stadium. You will get punched." Maybe it's just because this side of the rivalry has been winning more, though.

It's also important to note that the odds of violence also depend on many factors such as significance of the game, attendance, weather, and where you are sitting. If you are in the cheap seats at a sell out game that is super important in uncomfortable weather conditions, you're better off staying home.
  • One con about dying hair. It's recommended to not wash your hair for about 2 days. I normally can't go a day without washing my hair. However, my stylist gave me a protip for prevent hair headaches and having the oils weigh down my hair: put baby powder in your hair.

    Totally works.

Wouldn't that turn your hair white? How much are we talking?

Not a lot, a few pinches here and there. I put some in my hands, rub my hands together and run my hands throughout my hair.

I smell like baby powder, but you can see it.

Sweet fucking Zeus, that's about one of the dumbest things I've read by someone who isn't a creationist. Basically you're engaging in special pleading for no reason at all. You are analyzing that rude behavior among sports fans is common everywhere because there are assholes everywhere and because there is alcohol everywhere inducing that sort of behavior. Except in Philly. They're just dicks there...

    Sorry, but that is asinine.

Have you ever thought about that despite this crap happening everywhere, as demonstrated by videos and by your own admission, when it happens Philadelphia it is memetically emphasized and generally publicized because people already have a preconceived conclusion of Philly sports fans being the worst?

Matter of fact is, that shit does happen everywhere and no fan base, not even your "classy" Giants fans are above it despite your allegations that they are.

San Fran Giants did the same thing just this year. Lakers Fans did the same thing this year, and fans of the Red Sox had their turn in 2007. What's your point?

    Not in New York.

Scott, you do realize that neither the Rangers nor the Giants won those championships on home turf?

Meanwhile, there was a riot in Vancouver after they lost the 94 Stanley Cup Finals as thousands of disgruntled fans left the stadium. There is also basically a riot every time the Canadiens win a playoff series. Similar thing happened in Philly when the team did win it all on home turf.

There is a certain dynamic you need for a riot to occur. The requirements are that you have a large group of people united in a strong emotional response. This can quite easily happen when a home team wins a championship on home turf, and the patrons of the venue go out in the street. You are making it sound as if the New York sports fans filed out of the arenas and paraded down broadway in an orderly fashion, when they didn't win on home turf and those "awesome parades" happened days after the event, when emotions cooled down.

    Speaking of awesome parades:

Nope. But they were all Home Games, and if you're asking for teams from outside New York to simultaneously play a home game and play in NY, then you're pushing for something that's obviously silly.
  • Scott, you do realize that neither the Rangers nor the Giants won those championships on home turf?
The Mets won it at home, and they appropriately stormed the field, but no car tippings or fires or violence. It was just on field celebration. That's something I think we need more of. If it's a huge huge game, and you win at home, I think it's ok to party on the field.

Yanks won it at home in 2009. If you search for 2009 world series riots, the top Google result is "Philly riots at minimum after World Series loss."

Also, only one of those teams actually plays in New York.

For a riot to occur, two things need to happen:

    1) a large crowd
    2) a strong emotional response in said crowd

I explained why the riots after the Rangers and Giants wins didn't happen due to point 1 not being present as those wins did not occur on home turf. Could be the lack of riots in New York in 09 be because of the latter? Yankees fans are kinda spoiled with championships, if you will. Perhaps it's also just that New York has a better police presence or is more used to handling large crowds of people. Whatever. The point is that riots after large sports events aren't exclusive to Philadelphia as you seemingly want to portray it. They occur all over the place after large victories, in particular if that victory happened at home. Occasionally they also occur after horrible losses, depending on whether the emotion is anger or simple melancholy. We've seen examples in Boston, Los Angeles, Montreal, Vancouver, San Francisco.

As for the Mets, I'm currently trying to find whether that game ended during the day or in the early evening, which could be a considerable factor as well.
