It's really sad to think that they're jazzed about this graphical engine in and of itself when it looks pretty good but not the kinda stuff that has a graphics engine team the size of the whole staff on an MGS game, e.g. Epic or Dice.
I never doubted that it was going to be functional, I just don't want what it's trying to do (and I'm not sure the general public does either). Why would I want a device that only plays non-intensive indie games when I could instead use a desktop PC, which plays non-intensive games as well as AAA titles and still does all the media center stuff?
Depends on your expectations. I was surprised it funded, surprised it will probably make it to market, and my next expectation to be broken would be if it's a big success.
While I don't have high hopes for the Ouya, one thing did interest me. It says on their website that they have partenered with XBMC. If I could just run XBMC on it straight up, it might be worth it for $99 as just a set top box that happens to have some games.. That free cable plugin is great and really makes Hulu plus not necessary. I still may just use a raspberry pi for that, but its something to take into consideration.
yes and I respect him for being completely willing to eat crow. Most writers would just pretend they loved it from the start.
Ouya has already exceeded my expectations in that it actually exists. Now I am only skeptical whether it will have long-term dev support with such a small install base. If they strike some big distribution deal, like putting it on shelves in Target, they may fully succeed.
1) It'd be nice to get Battlefield 3 Premium 2) I'll play some BF3.. 3) I just died because I couldn't get over a half foot high rock. 3) OR I just died because the class/vehicle I play isn't designed for K/D ratios. 3) OR I just died due to one of the network issues. 4) Close.
SMITE is better then expected. It's a good mix of FPS with MOBA elements. The game needs more polish before it gets officially released, but I already love the training way more then any other of the other free to play games. I would say its a good way of FPS veterans to attempt to branch into a new genre.

I know very little about this thing...but I'm skeptical...
I am not all that interested in that game but it does remind me that I would enjoy an animated film where the different universes collided. A very loose adaption of Countdown: Arena could be fun.
I'm interested, not in the Ouya itself, but how its presence will affect the rippling pond of game development. If independent developers can actually make a splash into the Big Three Console War, then will that push the bar higher for the others and increase quality, or break the paradigms we've locked ourselves in?
It totally depends on whether it has the weight to make any ripples. Right now they have like 60,000 units. That's incredibly insignificant, and there is no obvious path for them to continue pushing more units into houses at the moment.
If they can open that path and move units, then developers might pay attention and cause a ripple. Otherwise, it will be forgotten about, and will be a cespool of awful ports and shovelware.
I would get one just to have an Android media center.
HTPC is a better idea in every way.

Except for price.
There are a few video apps that I use on my phone that I would like to export to a larger screen. I have not had much luck finding a good solution using my phone (calls come in and such) so a non-phone box connected to my TV would be ideal.
