  • My office is basically a museum to board games and retro video games, but there a few things on my list of curiosities to acquire:
    - GBA Micro
    - Virtual Boy
    - Vectrex
  • Oh for when the GMA Micro was new, and I was all meh.
  • Time has been kind to the Micro. It's a lovely little device. It's metallic for a start! Feels well crafted. Quality.
  • I almost pulled the trigger one one back in those original days when they made the Famicom 20th anniversary edition with those classic colors. Regret.

I need to play more Elite dangerous, but for some reason it freaks me out when I come out of hyperdrive and I'm heading directly into the sun.

Granted I've actually tried flying into the sun and it doesn't seem like you actually can, but it still kinda freaks me out.

Also for the record the two GBA games I still own copies of are FF VI and Link to the Past.

Well, yes, because you explode before you ever really hit the sun. Heat Damage.

But yeah, that's given me a few moments of panic here and there. Though nowdays I tend to just throttle right down as soon as I start getting the FSD counter(because you're locked in at that point) or once I've hit witchspace. I'll still hit the sun, but at 30km/s, not any time soon.

  • I was about to get *really* into Elite: Dangerous (near 10 hours in) when I got a HOTAS in from eBay for like $60, and the thing has a slight drift on the right stick. Need to see if I can recalibrate it or something. It was just very frustrating to not have it work properly, and I got sucked into some other games.

I think I made about 30 hours on a gamepad before I bit the bullet and bought a HOTAS, and bought an X52. I've raced a little, fought a lot, but by far I've spent the most time on just one thing:

  • I was in a bit of a stressed out period when I was playing, and I found it very cathartic to just be alone in space, take some missions shipping goods and work through the basic challenge of undocking, charting a proper course, flying there, and docking up. That's scratching the surface of Elite: Dangerous and I loved it as much as most entire games.
  • I just picked up Elite Dangerous, there's just so much to do, it's pretty daunting. I've been digging it, but with just a mouse and keyboard it feels a bit clunky. Not a fault of the game, but it makes it hard to not run out and buy a HOTAS right now. Maybe if I'm still feeling it after the holidays.

A controller is alright - less clunky, at least, but you still need a keyboard. It's the devs preferred second option, if HOTAS isn't available or workable, as you can see on many of the livestreams.

If you need a cheap HOTAS, Thrustmaster T-flight is usually on Amazon for 40-50 bucks new, and they're pretty solid for a cheap one.

Also, if any of y'all want to find me in game, you know my name, you know how to find me.

  • GBA: I own copies of:

    FF6
    ALTTP
    Minish Cap
    Zero Mission
    Fusion
    Advance Wars 1 + 2
    Golden Sun 1 + 2
    Yoshi’s Island

Mostly because of the Micro. If I didn’t have that I wouldn’t care, I’d just emulate on DS or something.

But you know.. Micro. Godly, Zeus etc.

IIRC you basically run into an invisible wall as well.

Not in my experience, though I've only had the game a few months. I've dropped from witchspace on wide-open throttles, and if you dive in too deep, you get dumped from supercruise. You keep trying to fly into the sun once you hit realspace, you cook before you ever get close to the surface, even with stacks of heatsinks, since it will drop you a fair way out realspace wise.

So, not really an invisible wall, as much as a deathzone, but also not really doable on account of being wicked dead.

Yeah I sort of remember that being the case but you just slow enough that it seems like you're not moving.

Yeah, at best you're only approaching it at like 300 m/s in realspace, which when you're flying at something that large, it doesn't seem to move - it is, but the amount it's moving as you fly directly toward it is barely noticeable.
  • So people are reporting about a new coleco system, almost all of them can't read....

Welcome to rebranding of an indie gogo failure.
  • Why would you intentionally shape your console so similarly to the Atari Jaguar?

They bought Atari jaguar shells, that's why.

  • I think I'm going to try to get back into the NS2 since all other multiplayer games have failed.

Also, let me know if Rocket League fixes its matchmaking, because that is its only flaw.
  • Post the common servers, would be good to have a match with fellow forumites.

Supposedly they fixed the Play Now button, so I'll be trying that out. Use the official GeekNights Steam group to find other players.
  • I'll update my NS and give it a whirl.

Best value of the Holiday Sale.

    SOLD
  • As someone who works on this product, I'm obligated to link this: https://aws.amazon.com/lumberyard/

I'd be curious to know what people here think about having another contender in the free game engine space.
