Thunderpile! Two artists enter, one artist leaves! That was a very fun episode even though it was mostly the artists talking and there wasn't any art involved really.
Looks like the next challenge will be signings. Signing pieces of paper the same way over and over again. Sounds fun!
A whole episode of Jungle Speed. Bleh... Makes me want to play Jungle Speed, though. At least they rounded out the episode spending lots of time talking to the remaining artists.
Still, this is the kind of thing that should just be the first half of an episode before a real challenge.

It basically is. These sorts of reality TV shows are usually an hour long and run weekly. The way Strip Search works is that basically it airs a third of an episode but airs twice a week instead.
Segments are usually a bit longer than 20 minutes, I admit, but that is also the benefit of the format/medium. Having an internet based series gives you a non-fixed running time and makes you able to structure segments the way you want and not having to fill an exact time slot and sacrificing interesting things of the competition because of it.
I liked this episode because it wasn't a whole episode of Jungle Speed. All the interviews and other moments made for a great way to get to know the contestants better.
The focus on Tavis might just be because he is a good story to show in this episode... or it could be because he wins overall, or it could be because he gets knocked out in the next challenge. Also his is the only lower third which has sparkles rising around it... is this meaningful or just bad editing?

I think it's going to be lettering, not signing. When you're signing, the size of your "o"s isn't being compared to anyone else's, and the speed at which you do it sin't really important.

Also possible. It's just that Khoo's really annoyed comment reminded me of a similar scene in PA: The Series where Mike and Jerry gave Khoo himself and other employees a hard time over their poor signatures when they were signing Season 1 DVDs.
I thought they made Jungle Speed look a lot more boring than it usually is. Where was the totem-grappling? The trash talking? The profusion of fouls? The energy level in general was low on camera.
Also, NOT the greatest game to play with a bunch of people whose chances to win the competition (and probably livelihoods) depend on their ability to use their hands. Kind of a dumb choice if you want players to really get get competitive.
Also, the third competition in a row that didn't involve art. I would think with so few of the artists left, they should be earning their immunity from their art skill, not from playing unrelated games. This would have been better as an earlier game. Next thing you know, they will be playing Settlers of Catan on the following day.
From the intro episode we knew there was going to be carting and table tennis. I don't recall seeing Jungle Speed though. I'd prefer art challenges, but I don't mind just getting to know the characters via other stuff.

And I suppose this is a bit of a test of character as well, proving you can fit in at the PA offices. Agree that I'd like more art, but I'm not at the point of crankiness yet. I'm sure the art will flow very soon.

It felt weird to watch, because all the interviews were frontloaded. Maybe they could have interspersed the interview clips with the Jungle Speed clips in a better way.
I wonder if they're going to do something special when it's down to just three artists, like a three-player elimination-style competition.
Three-player finales are a big pet peeve of mine in any reality competition. I used to watch reality stuff like Survivor when it first came around in the 90's, and I hate how keeping a third person around for the finale changes the strategy of those games. The real rub is that they are only doing it to keep production cost down since networks realized they could milk reality profits by making them as cheaply as humanly possible.
Axel, don't worry about spoilers in this thread. People watch the new episode right away and only check this out after.
I knew the only way Katie wouldn't be sent in would be due to her winning a challenge... and now she did two days in a row. A great challenge, but I'd love to see Maki pick up his game ever.
Also I think now the competition format is working against picking the top webcomic artist. Katie pretty much said she picked Maki for his art skills... but that doesn't mean he's a good cartoonist. Same with Lexxy. They ARE good cartoonists, but Abby and Tavis didn't have the chance to prove that in the challenges so far.
I'd be happy for either to win the challenge on Friday. I think Tavis will take it, but would like Abby to stay in longer too.
Mike vs. Abby. Always a delight. But the banter with Tavis was also hilarious.
Tavis made a funny image, but it isn't really a comic. Abby's joke is kind of old, but she executed it well and it was more of a comic than the strip that Tavis drew. The third panel made the comic. The first to last and second to last panel were a bit superfluous though.
The topics were cats and cars. My comic depends on knowing Transformers characters, but I'm not sure that's a problem for anything published in this forum. Tavis's previous comic was a joke about Robin's backstory, so while I'm not sure my comic is funny, at least most people will get the joke.
And learning from last week's attempt, I decided to not include an extra panel at the end, about a "fur ball" containing bits of cars, and Megatron getting angry about it. Opening with the Bumblebee pun, and having the Decepticat's name as Snowflake, is funny enough. The start of the unused panel:
Yet again the drawing took only a few minutes, but scanning and other shit made the whole thing take about 45 minutes. If I had art skills, I'd spend more time on it, but after about 10 minutes on drawing I hit the my limit of making any picture better.

Still not sure about the sparkles around his name and not the other contestants' names, but I've come to the conclusion that it's just bad editing. Even he referred to him talking about his family during the previous two episodes, so at least I wasn't alone in thinking it might be because he either wins overall or gets knocked out in the next challenge.
I really liked Tavis's's's strip, but it looked way more like two panels from a much larger comic. I'd read that comic, probably, but this extract didn't show his real strengths.
Abby's strip was really funny. Juliane and I laughed out loud as it scrolled down to show those last few panels. No matter the art skills of the others, the 90-minute-to-full-comic-strip format plays directly into Abby's strengths. Transforming funny directly into images is way easier with the limited pallet and tools that not having Photoshop allows you.
My heart with was Abby, my brain was with Tavis. I should have stuck with my heart, and the fact that Abby's webcomic is funnier than anyone else's in the house I've read.
I'm watching the episode again and I am just laughing at the expressions and looks they show Abby giving to Gabe. Also the answers of how she's in it for the the C and the D.
Gabe's and Tycho's reactions to Abby's comic were pretty priceless as well.
I look forward to seeing more when the DVD gets released.
Edit: Also note that there are nipples in Abby's comic.
Edit: Also that fake out when they told Abby, "I'm sorry, but you're stuck in the house for another day." That's hilarious and fucked up.
3. Katie won twice, two times against weak comics, and once her comic only won due to being the least weak.
2. Lexxy won once against a weak comic and lost against a strong comic. Then she was brought back in because her losing comic was better than two weak comics.
1. Abby won twice, both times against pretty good comics. One win was against a typically "weak" subject matter, that being anything autobiographical (see Monika's comic, Erika's comic, Katie's second comic, and the losing space ping ping comic). Her other win was against someone who previously beat Lexxy, so she is the only two time winner and the only person to knock out a previous winner.
Next week I hope to see Maki in for a second time, plus Katie has to proved herself against the other contenders. Katie should have been in this time, but she won the signing challenge...

Also, the harassment was hilarious.
"In today's episode, Penny Arcade staff member Joshua Price gets his revenge on the artists after not being picked in Day 7's ping pong tournament."
I teared up a bit when Katie was explaining to them her decision. It's like Sophie's Choice.
Either he proves his chops once more and I say goodbye to Abby (:(((((((), or Abby shows her special fantastic-ness and manages to win. We shall see.

A shot of a cat's face with speed lines like it's running really fast.
The word THUD! While the cats face is confused or guilty.
A picture of a tiny road kill car on it's side with cat paw prints instead of tire tracks.
Abby's comic made me pretty heartily. I am caught up with her webcomic and am always looking forward to the next one.
I think in the end it's going to come down between Abby and Katie. As much as I love Maki and Lexxy, I'm rooting for Abby or Katie.
Edit: I also love the banter in this elimination round between the contestants and Gabe & Tycho. Abby answered them pretty well with full on snark.
